EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University won its seventh straight game for the first time since the 1991-92 season with a 66-54 victory over Clarion on Saturday afternoon at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Sophomore guard Andy Heimbach scored 17 points and senior forward Channon Easley added 12 points, eight rebounds and four blocks for the Warriors, who improve to 7-3 this season.

ESU lost its first three games of the year before winning all six contests in December, including four PSAC crossover victories and a pair of 30-point wins in its home tournament on December 7-8.

ESU is 5-0 against the PSAC West, with games remaining against IUP on Sunday and at California next Saturday.

Clarion opened the game with a 12-3 run over the first eight minutes, but the Warriors responded with a 13-3 surge to take a 16-15 lead on a layup by freshman guard Mike DeMarco with 7:53 left in the opening half.

Heimbach scored seven straight points in the run, and made his second three-pointer of the game to put ESU ahead 29-28 with just under a minute left. DeMarco made a long three-pointer just before the buzzer to send the Warriors into the locker room with a 32-28 lead.

A nine-point run in a span of 1:21 early second half, sparked by a steal and layup by junior forward Chris Bach and a block by Easley which led to another three from Heimbach, gave the Warriors a 41-30 lead with 18:33 left.

Another 9-0 run midway through the half put the game away, capped by a three-pointer by senior forward Josh Wentz which extended the advantage to 57-40 with eight minutes on the clock. Wentz finished with nine points, seven rebounds and five assists.

The Warriors will look for their eighth straight win on Sunday at 3 p.m. against IUP. The last ESU team to win at least eight straight games was the 1972-73 squad which had streaks of eight and 10 victories on its way to a 23-4 record.
