EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior forward Kevin Holmes scored three second-half goals to lead East Stroudsburg University to a 3-1 non-conference victory over Philadelphia University on Tuesday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
The Rams led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Kyle Altenau in the 16th minute before Holmes rallied the Warriors. He recorded his third career hat trick and first since the 2006 season, when he scored 15 goals and was the PSAC Rookie of the Year.
Holmes tied the game at 1-1 with a header on an assist from junior midfielder Toric Robinson off a free kick 5:53 into the second half. He added his second goal five minutes later, again from Robinson, and finished the hat trick with 1:29 remaining on an assist from senior midfielder Roshane Ellison.
Holmes entered the top 10 in school history with 32 career goals, one ahead of Ellison, who leads the Warriors with 12 goals this season. Robinson's two assists give him 20 in his career, tied for 10th in ESU soccer history.
Junior goalkeeper Larry Pokrywa made five saves for ESU, while Charles Custer had eight saves for Philadelphia University before leaving with an injury following the final goal.
ESU gets back into conference action with a 5 p.m. match against Kutztown on Friday night as part of a soccer doubleheader at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
