BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Gilbert Bayonne scored his eighth goal of the season in the eighth minute to lead Bridgeport to a 3-0 win over East Stroudsburg University in a match-up of two of the top men's soccer programs in the Northeast on Wednesday night.

Both schools represented the Northeast Region in the NCAA Division II playoffs last year before the regions were reorganized prior to the 2008 season. ESU (10-3) is ranked No. 12 in the nation and No. 2 in the Atlantic Region and Bridgeport (10-2) is No. 5 in the East in this week's NSCAA poll.

Curt Sutherland put Bridgeport ahead 2-0 just over 16 minutes into the match, and LeRoux Lothian sealed the win with the final goal with three minutes to go. Bayonne and Lothian both had a goal and an assist for the Purple Knights.

Bridgeport held a 17-14 advantage in shots and Milos Suljagic made four saves for the shutout.

ESU returns to PSAC East play for the first time in more than two weeks with a 5 p.m. match-up with Shippensburg as part of Super Soccer Saturday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
