ESU Men's Basketball Opens 2008-09 Campaign with 119-60 Win

EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior forward Chris Bach scored 23 points to lead six players in double figures as East Stroudsburg University opened the 2008-09 men's basketball season with a 119-60 win over Penn State-Schuylkill on Sunday at Koehler Fieldhouse.

The Warriors' 119 points are tied for the second-most in school history behind a 122-88 win over Bloomsburg during the 1970-71 season.

Bach was 7-of-10 from the field, 9-of-11 from the foul line and added eight rebounds, six steals and two blocks in 21 minutes. Junior guard Andy Heimbach had 16 points and senior guard Dawud Lyons added 10 points for the Warriors starters, who combined to score 55 points.

Three players hit double figures off the bench, with 13 points each from sophomore guard Mike DeMarco and freshman forward Dan Robinson, and junior forward Preston Ritter scored 11 points. Robinson and Ritter were both 5-of-6 from the field for the Warriors, who shot 71 percent in the second half and 57 percent for the game.

Junior guard Darnell Moore had eight points and freshman forward Eric Bryan scored seven points in their first career action.

ESU forced 39 turnovers and had 25 steals, including at least one from 12 of the 14 players in uniform.

Senior guard Pat Fleury, the PSAC leader with 5.1 assists per game last season, had seven assists in 14 minutes and point guards Robby Pines and Antwain Wynn added three assists each.

ESU travels to the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia on Thursday for a doubleheader, beginning with the women's game at 6 p.m.
