Chris Bach had 26 points and 12 rebounds and sophomore guard
Mike DeMarco set a career-high with 18 points in his first career start to lead East Stroudsburg University to a 74-65 win at the University of the Sciences on Thursday at Bobby Morgan Arena.
Bach scored the first six points of the game and had 17 in the second half as ESU (2-0) pulled away from a 33-33 tie at intermission. DeMarco was 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-6 from the three-point line, including one with 4:42 to play after USP took a 58-57 lead, its only advantage of the second half.
The Warriors went 9-for-10 at the foul line in the final 1:24 to put the game away, with Bach going 5-for-6. He was 10-of-13 for the game and went 9-for-11 in the season opener against Penn State-Schuylkill, when he scored 23 points and pulled down eight boards.
Forward Dan Robinson, the reigning PSAC East Freshman of the Week, scored eight straight points midway through the first half, including two three-pointers, to give ESU a spark off the bench.
DeMarco set his previous career-high with 13 points vs. PSU-Schuylkill, when he was one of six players in double figures as ESU scored 119 points. While only two players hit double figures on Thursday, senior forward Aaron Pinckney had nine points and junior guard Robby Pines had five assists and two steals in 17 minutes off the bench.
Mark Concannon scored 15 points and Adewale Adefemi had 12 of his 14 points in the second half for USP (0-3).
ESU is off for 10 days before returning to the floor on Sunday, Nov. 30 at the University of the District of Columbia.
