EAST STROUDSBURG - Dave Ben scored 16 points in a 28-4 run to start the second half as Kutztown overcame an 11-point halftime deficit to beat East Stroudsburg University 78-56 on Wednesday night.
Ben finished with 32 points, Andre Woodlin had 14 and Stephen Dennis added 10 points, 10 rebounds, five blocks and three steals for the Golden Bears, who improve to 5-1 in the PSAC East.
Senior forward Channon Easley led ESU (13-7, 2-4) with 12 points and nine rebounds and pulled within two points of the 1,000-point plateau for his career in 16 minutes in his first action after a two-game absence. Junior forward Chris Bach had six points and 12 boards.
ESU trailed 7-4 before scoring the next 14 points and led by as many as 14 in the first half. The Warriors held a 37-26 advantage at intermission.
Bach scored a minute into the second half to put ESU ahead by 13 when Kutztown started its run with a jumper by Ryan Washington.
Ben scored 16 of the game's next 21 points - two three-pointers, a dunk and four layups - and the Golden Bears led 47-41 with 11:33 left.
Kutztown ran off the next seven points as well to lead by 13 with 8:30 to go. The Warriors cut the deficit to nine on two free throws and a layup by senior forward Josh Wentz, but that was as close as they would get.
ESU will return to action on Saturday with a non-conference game against PSU-Schuylkill. Tip-off is at 7 p.m., an hour earlier than the previously published time on the original schedule.
