FORT MYERS, Fla. - Junior Bill Hezel earned his first victory in an East Stroudsburg University uniform with a 4-2 complete game win against the University of Charleston (W.V.) in the first game of a doubleheader in Fort Myers, Fla. on Tuesday.

Charleston took the second game 6-2, using a four-run sixth inning to pull away from a 2-1 lead to split the series.

Hezel, a transfer from Lehigh and a graduate of East Stroudsburg North, struck out five and walked only one batter. Charleston scored twice in the third but Hezel gave up just three hits from that point and allowed only one runner to reach second base.

The Warriors (6-7) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Kevin Thompson had a one-out double, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Kenny Serfass.

After Charleston plated two runs in the top of the third, ESU regained the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom half. John Pisker singled, Kyle Sheaffer walked and Chris Zsenak followed with an RBI single to score Pisker and move Sheaffer to third. Sheaffer scored on a double steal while Zsenak stayed in a rundown long enough for Sheaffer to cross the plate before the third out of the inning.

ESU stretched its lead to 4-2 in the fifth as Clemens singled, Pisker doubled and Sheaffer hit a ground ball to third that allowed Clemens to score.

In the second game, ESU freshman Tom Admire didn't give up a hit until the fourth inning, while Charleston's Erik Sehnal shut the Warriors out through the first five frames and held a 2-0 lead going into the top of the sixth.

Freshman shortstop Edwin Padua led off the inning with a single and Pisker and Sheaffer had back-to-back base hits to plate ESU's first run. Sheaffer stole second to put the go-ahead run in scoring position, but Pisker was out at home after a pitch in the dirt, and Zsenak hit a long fly ball to center for the third out.

Charleston padded its lead with four runs, keyed by a bases loaded double by Jimmy Dailey, to go ahead 6-1. The Warriors got one more run in the seventh on a solo homer by Mike Dunkailo and had the tying run in the on-deck circle when Clemens flew out to the warning track in center to end the game.

Admire pitched much better than his final line indicated in his first career start, allowing two runs, four hits and striking out four in the first five innings. Sehnal went the distance for Charleston and gave up nine hits but only two runs.

ESU will return to action on Thursday with a doubleheader against Ashland (Ohio) beginning at 2 p.m.
