WILMINGTON, Del. - Junior centerfielder Mike Bortz hit a pair of three-run homers to lead East Stroudsburg University to a 9-1 win in the second game to split a doubleheader at Wilmington University on Saturday. The Wildcats won the first game 6-2.

Bortz, playing for the first time since suffering an injury in the first game of ESU's 11-game trip to Florida, homered in the first and fourth innings to stake the Warriors to a 6-0 lead. In the first, Chad Schlegel walked to start the game, Kyle Sheaffer followed with a single and Bortz went deep to put ESU ahead 3-0.

In the fourth, freshman Edwin Padua singled, Schlegel drew another walk and Bortz hit his second homer of the game and the third of the season. Bortz was 2-for-3 in both games on Saturday and is hitting .395 through his first 10 games.

ESU added three more runs in the sixth as Padua started the offense with a single, moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Schlegel and scored on a single by Sheaffer. Chris Zsenak had an RBI single after Bortz was intentionally walked, and Kenny Serfass completed the scoring with a sacrifice fly that plated Bortz.

Junior pitcher Bill Hezel picked up his second win of the season, allowing two hits and striking out seven in four innings. Sophomore Christian Saveri pitched three scoreless innings in relief for his second save of the year.

In the opener, the Warriors dented the scoreboard first with a run in the second when freshman Tom Admire singled, stole second, advanced to third on a ground ball and came home on a single by Padua.

Wilmington put up three runs in both the third and fourth innings to take a 6-1 lead. Junior Mike Dunkailo led off the top of the seventh with a solo home run for ESU's final run of the game.

Sophomore Jeremy Gigliotti allowed four earned runs and struck out five in six innings for his second complete game in four starts this year.

ESU will travel to Philadelphia University for a mid-week game on Wednesday before starting PSAC East action with a weekend set against Mansfield. The home opener is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.
