EAST STROUDSBURG - Sophomore Steve Prazenka threw a three-hit shutout for a 1-0 win in the second game to lead East Stroudsburg University to a doubleheader split with Mansfield in the PSAC East opener for both schools on Saturday at Mitterling Field.

Prazenka and Eric Rosenberger matched zeroes through the first four innings before ESU broke through with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman SS Edwin Padua and junior 3B Chad Schlegel had one-out singles, and Padua scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore 2B Brendan O'Malley to put the Warriors on the board.

Prazenka pitched around a leadoff single in the sixth and retired the side in order in the seventh for his first career shutout. He yielded two walks in the first but allowed only one other runner to reach scoring position, and had a pickoff to erase a base runner in the third.

Mansfield (15-8, 1-1) won the opener 7-2 behind a complete game victory from Irvin Sleighter. Both teams scored a run in the first inning before the Mounties put up three runs in the second and two more in the third to take a 6-1 lead.

The Warriors (11-14, 1-1) picked up a run in the fourth on an RBI single from sophomore OF John Pisker but weren't able to do any more damage against Sleighter.

Senior Dave Boyer took the loss for the Warriors to fall to 4-2 on the season, and junior Mike Walker retired all five batters he faced in relief.

ESU will travel to Mansfield to complete the series on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
