KUTZTOWN - Darin Gorski won a 2-0 pitchers dual with ESU senior Dave Boyer in the opener, and Kutztown swept the doubleheader with a 10-3 victory in game two in PSAC East baseball on Saturday afternoon at North Campus Field.
Gorski threw a three-hitter and struck out seven and Jared Frey had a two-run double in the fourth inning to provide the offense in the first game. The Golden Bears (21-19, 8-8) loaded the bases with nobody out and Frey broke the scoreless tie with his double before Boyer got out of the inning with a double play and a strikeout.
ESU (17-24, 6-10) threatened in the first inning, putting runners on first and third with one out, but sophomore 3B Brendan O'Malley was thrown out at home on a double steal and Gorski worked his way out of the frame and allowed just two hits the rest of the way.
The Warriors scored all three of their runs in the first inning of the second game when junior OF Mike Bortz had an RBI single to bring home junior 2B Chad Schlegel, and sophomore 3B Anthony Clemens drove a two-run single that plated O'Malley and Bortz.
Kutztown came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning, with Frey providing another two-run double, and went ahead 5-3 in the second on an RBI double by Chad Lightcap and a run-scoring single from James Quigley.
The Golden Bears managed another run in the fourth and put the game away with four runs on four hits in the sixth to take the season series 3-1 and even their conference record at 8-8.
ESU hosts Columbia Union in a nine-inning non-conference game on Monday and Lock Haven in a doubleheader on Tuesday before closing PSAC East play next weekend against Millersville.
