Box Score
EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University came back from one-run deficits in the ninth and 10th innings, and sophomore catcher Brendan O'Connor drew a bases loaded walk to bring home the winning run in the 11th inning of a 6-5 win over Columbia Union in non-conference baseball on Monday.
The Warriors (18-24) scored twice in the first inning, as junior CF Mike Bortz had an RBI triple and later scored, but didn't manage any more offense until the eighth inning after Columbia Union had taken a 4-2 lead.
Junior 3B Blake Knecht lifted a sacrifice fly to score junior RF Kevin Thompson in the eighth inning, and the Warriors scratched out another run in the ninth to send the game to extra innings. Sophomore DH Brendan O'Malley walked and stole second to start the ninth inning rally, and scored on an error by the first baseman.
Columbia Union took advantage of an ESU error to go ahead 5-4 in the top of the 10th. O'Malley singled with the bases loaded to score sophomore SS Anthony Clemens, who opened the frame with a double, but O'Connor was thrown out at home and the game went into the 11th inning.
Clemens replaced junior Mike Walker, who didn't give up an earned run in 6.2 innings in relief, and hit two batters but got out of a bases loaded situation to maintain the 5-5 deadlock.
Junior 1B Chris Zsenak walked and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior LF Kyle Sheaffer in the bottom of the inning. The Warriors loaded the bases as Thompson walked and Clemens singled, and O'Connor walked to score the winning run.
Clemens was credited with the win for ESU and was 3-for-5 at the plate, while junior 2B Chad Schlegel and O'Malley were both 2-for-4.
Walker allowed just one unearned run on seven hits in the longest outing of his 48 career appearances on the mound for the Warriors.
ESU hosts Lock Haven in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Mitterling Field.
