LOCK HAVEN - Chad Schlegel and Chris Zsenak both had three hits and Mike Bortz homered and drove in three runs in an 8-4 victory in the opener as East Stroudsburg University split a non-conference baseball doubleheader at Lock Haven on Tuesday.

Bortz homered in both games for the Warriors, giving him six home runs this season, tied for sixth in school history despite missing 12 games due to injury.

ESU plated a run in the first inning in the opener, then scored seven runs over the final three innings to break the game open. The Bald Eagles tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning before the Warriors broke the deadlock with two runs in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by freshman SS Edwin Padua and a RBI double by Schlegel.

Bortz and Zsenak had back-to-back doubles to give ESU a 4-1 lead in the sixth, and Bortz's two-run homer was the big blow in a four-run seventh that put the Warriors ahead 8-1. Senior DH Blake Knecht also drove in a run after Zsenak ripped his second triple of the year.

Senior Richard Larson didn't allow an earned run and gave up four hits through the first six innings. Lock Haven scored three unearned runs in the seventh inning, but Larson got out of the jam for his first complete game of the season.

LHU won the second game 11-5 after the Warriors went ahead 4-0 through 2 1/2 innings, as Bortz hit his second home run of the day in the first and sophomore OF John Pisker had an RBI double in the third.

The Bald Eagles scored three runs in the third and sent 11 batters to the plate in a six-run fifth inning, benefiting from four walks, a hit by pitch and three hits, to take a 9-5 lead. Matt Palko and Tim Bremen hit back-to-back homers in the sixth for Lock Haven.

Bortz was 3-for-6 with four runs and five RBI on the afternoon and Schlegel went 5-for-8 and scored three runs to lead the Warriors offense.

ESU returns to PSAC East action with a four-game set against Bloomsburg this weekend. The Warriors host the Huskies in a doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m. at Mitterling Field.
