Box Score

EAST STROUDSBURG - Junior midfielder Toric Robinson had two goals and two assists and senior forward Jason Shegda added two goals to lead No. 8 East Stroudsburg University to a 12-0 win over Lincoln in the 2008 men's soccer season opener on Thursday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

ESU struck quickly in its debut on the newly-installed FieldTurf, scoring three goals in the first 17 minutes to jump out to an early lead. Senior back Brian Johnston netted the first goal on the new surface, scoring on assists Robinson and senior forward Roshane Ellison 9:33 into the game.

Robinson scored the next goal on a free kick two minutes later, and Robinson assisted on a goal by senior forward Kevin Holmes five minutes later to complete the flurry.

The Warriors scored two more goals in the first half, including a penalty kick from Ellison, to take a 5-0 lead. Shegda opened the second-half scoring with a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes, and junior midfielder Shane McFarlane knocked home a penalty kick less than a minute after Shegda's second goal.

Robinson added his second goal with 27 minutes left, and freshmen Greg Schook and Kyle Niemann found the net in the final minute for their first career goals.

Sophomore Troy Hernandez got the start in goal for ESU, replacing injured starter Larry Pokrywa, the MVP of last year's 1-0, double-overtime victory in the PSAC championship game. Junior Chris Duggan and sophomore Brian Haines shared time in the second half and combined on the shutout.

The 12-0 margin is the largest for the Warriors since scoring 13 goals in a win over Pitt-Johnstown in 2002.

ESU travels to NYIT for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday in a rematch of last season's NCAA Division II Northeast Region semifinal match-up, which NYIT won 2-0.
