OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - Marciek Serafin scored the game's only goal on a penalty kick in the 89th minute as NYIT knocked off No. 8 East Stroudsburg University in a battle of two of the top teams in the Northeast Region on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears (1-0), who beat ESU 2-0 in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs last season, held an 8-4 advantage in shots but didn't break through until the Warriors (1-1) were whistled for a handball at the edge of the box with 1:41 remaining.

Cosimo D'Agostino made one save in goal and earned the shutout for NYIT. Sophomore Troy Hernandez made his second straight start for the Warriors and had two saves.

ESU returns to action on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. start at Holy Family.
