ESU Men's Soccer Rallies for 4-3 Win at Holy Family

PHILADELPHIA - Senior Roshane Ellison scored two second-half goals and senior Jason Shegda added a goal and two assists to help No. 7 East Stroudsburg University overcome a 2-1 halftime deficit in a 4-3 victory at Holy Family on Wednesday afternoon.

Shegda assisted on a goal by senior Kevin Holmes less than three minutes into the match, but Holy Family replied three minutes later on an unassisted goal by Tim Weglicki, and John Friskey put the Tigers in front in the 39th minute.

Shegda's goal 6:54 into the second half tied the game at 2-2, and Ellison found the net following a pass from Shegda in the 68th minute.

Ellison gave the Warriors a 4-2 lead less than four minutes later with an important insurance goal, as Holy Family came right back with a goal from Matt Kocher 1:15 after Ellison's second score of the match.

ESU outshot Holy Family 25-10 for the match and held on to its one-goal lead to improve to 2-1 this season.

Sophomore Troy Hernandez got the start in the goal for the Warriors and made one save in the first half. Junior Larry Pokrywa entered at halftime for his first action of the season and made three saves to receive credit for the victory.

The Warriors moved up one spot to No. 7 in the NSCAA coaches poll on Tuesday despite dropping a 1-0 decision at NYIT on a penalty kick in the 89th minute last Saturday. The two-time defending PSAC champions will travel to Kutztown for their conference opener on Saturday at 2 p.m.
