ESU Men's Basketball Rolls Past Lock Haven, 77-56

EAST STROUDSBURG - Pat Fleury and Andy Heimbach hit three-pointers as part of an 8-0 run in less than a minute at the end of the first half, and East Stroudsburg University put away Lock Haven for a 77-56 non-conference win on Saturday at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Senior forward Chris Bach led four Warriors in double figures with 17 points and seven rebounds. Senior guard Dawud Lyons scored 11 points and Heimbach and sophomore guard Mike DeMarco had 10 each for ESU (8-4).

Fleury recorded a season-high nine assists to reach 300 for his career, moving into a tie for fifth in school history with Tyson Murdock. He also had a team-high four steals.

Heimbach led a 32-point effort from the ESU bench, along with sophomore forward Mike Tobin (six points, seven rebounds) and freshman forward Eric Bryan (six points, three boards).

The Bald Eagles (2-10) played the Warriors tough in the first dozen minutes of the game, briefly holding a three-point lead at 16-13, before ESU pulled away from a 19-19 tie with a 7-0 run. Lyons scored five points in the stretch with a layup and a three-point play, and Bryan hit a jumper in the lane after having an offensive rebound and putback a couple minutes earlier.

The Warriors led 30-25 with four minutes left in the half before Heimbach got hot from downtown. He hit a three-pointer with 2:09 left, then had another three on an assist from Fleury with 45 seconds left in the half to close the Warriors' 8-0 surge. Junior forward Preston Ritter had a layup and Fleury hit a three-pointer seconds earlier, and ESU led 41-29 at the half.

ESU built its advantage throughout the second half, leading by at least a dozen points the rest of the way, to improve to 8-4 on the season. Billy Arre, Lock Haven's all-time leading scorer with more than 1,800 career points, led the Bald Eagles with 20 points.

The Warriors host Edinboro on Sunday at 3 p.m. in another PSAC crossover match-up. ESU is 15-2 against the PSAC West since the 2006-07 season, including two straight wins over the Fighting Scots.
