SHIPPENSBURG - Senior forward
Chris Bach scored a career-high 34 points and junior guard
Andy Heimbach added 16, including the game-tying three-pointer at the end of the first overtime, and East Stroudsburg University topped Shippensburg 88-84 in double overtime for a PSAC East road win on Saturday at Heiges Field House.
Bach also pulled down 13 rebounds for his third straight double-double and scored 26 points in the second half and overtime. He was 10-of-19 from the field and 14-for-16 from the foul line, nearly matching a 16-for-20 effort at the line two weeks ago at Clarion.
Bach scored 16 of ESU's final 21 points in regulation and was 8-for-9 at the line down the stretch. He had a three-point play to put the Warriors ahead 68-67 with 2:35 left, a steal and a dunk after Shippensburg went back in front, and made the score 72-70 with two free throws with 1:11 left.
Shippensburg turned the ball over after an offensive rebound with 48 seconds to play, but ESU senior guard Pat Fleury fouled out on an offensive foul at the other end to give the Raiders the ball with 16 seconds to go. Stephon Draper missed a driving layup, but Justin Minter had the putback to tie the score with six seconds left to force overtime.
Senior forward Aaron Pinckney scored a season-high 13 points and had the Warriors' first two buckets of overtime. Draper hit a jumper to give Shippensburg a 78-76 advantage with 1:23 left and went one-of-two at the foul line with 35 seconds on the clock for a 79-76 lead.
Heimbach hit the fourth of his five three-pointers with 13 seconds left to tie the game, and Pinckney defended Draper at the other end as the Raiders were unable to get off a shot.
ESU outscored Shippensburg 9-5 in the second overtime, and Heimbach's fifth triple of the game made the score 85-81 with 2:35 remaining. Bach scored after an offensive rebound by Pinckney on the next possession to make it a six-point game.
Ryan Kraft hit a three-pointer to bring Shippensburg within 87-84 with 38 seconds left. Heimbach was fouled and made the second of two free throws for a four-point cushion, and the Raiders missed a pair of three-pointers at the end.
Heimbach was 5-of-9 from the three-point line and had consecutive three's late in the first half after Shippensburg had opened a 28-17 advantage. He moves into a tie with Chris Diller for second in school history with 129 three-pointers. Juwan Justice holds the school record with 162 career three's.
ESU turned the ball over just 14 times in 50 minutes and junior guard Robby Pines had four assists, no turnovers and five steals in a career-high 31 minutes for the Warriors. Sophomore forward Mike Tobin also came off the bench with five points and five rebounds.
Shippensburg had five players in double figures - Draper (16), Derrick Graff (16), Daziah Miller (15), Kraft (13 points, 15 rebounds) and Lamar Drayton (12).
The Warriors (11-4, 2-0) won their fifth straight game, with four of the victories coming by five points or less. Next up is Bloomsburg on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse.
