Warriors Blitz PSU-Allegheny from Long Distance in 109-61 Win at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG – East Stroudsburg University made its first five three-pointers in a four-minute stretch to open the game and improved to 3-0 with a 109-61 win over Penn State-Allegheny on the second day of the Wolf's Bus Lines Classic at Shippensburg University on Saturday night.

Senior guard Andy Heimbach (4-for-6) and junior guard Mike DeMarco (4-for-4) both scored 14 points and hit a pair of three's in the first three minutes of the game. Senior guard Robby Pines added another at the 16:02 mark as ESU ran out to a 19-2 lead. The advantage reached 34 points (42-8) by the eight-minute mark and settled at 43 (61-18) at halftime.

The Warriors were 14-for-28 from the three-point line and 17-for-18 at the foul line. They tied their most made three's in eight seasons under head coach Jeff Wilson and had their top free throw percentage in a game under Wilson at 94.4 percent.

ESU put five players in double figures for the second straight game led by 16 points from freshman forward Duane Johnson. Freshman forward Terrance King (12 points) and freshman guard Gerald Bridges, Jr. (10 points) also hit double figures and Bridges, Jr. added eight rebounds and four assists.

Heimbach and King were named to the All-Tournament for ESU.

Pines (eight points, seven assists) and junior guard Micah Covert (nine points, five assists) combined for 17 points and 12 assists from the point guard spot in just 24 minutes of action. Pines has 18 assists and three turnovers this season after ranking sixth in Division II with a 3.0 assist-to-turnover ratio a year ago.

Freshman forward Marcus Brown missed double figures for the first time in his first three games, with eight points, but pulled down a season-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Eric Bryan had nine boards and two blocked shots.

All 13 players in uniform scored in the game and all but three contributed to ESU's 30 assists on 39 made field goals.

Darius Prince had 18 points and 11 turnovers for PSU-Allegheny and Montel Staples scored 16 points and was 5-for-13 from long distance.

ESU has won its first three games by margins of 49, 49 and 48 points and is back on the floor next Tuesday against USP at 8 p.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse.
