EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior guard
Micah Covert scored a season-high 18 points, senior guard
Andy Heimbach hit five three-pointers and East Stroudsburg University held the University of the Sciences without a field goal over the final four minutes to post a 59-50 win in non-conference men's basketball on Tuesday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.
Covert scored 10 points in the first half and Heimbach made four of his five three-pointers in the second half for the Warriors, who overcame an eight-minute scoreless drought to open to the game to lead 28-21 at halftime.
ESU (4-0) extended the lead to 10 in the first six minutes of the second half, but USP came back and narrowed the margin to one on two occasions, the second time following two free throws by Henry Messinger to make the score 51-50 with 3:38 remaining.
Covert hit his third triple of the game on the Warriors' next possession, and ESU led by four (54-50) for the next three minutes as USP had a layup blocked, turned the ball over and missed four straight free throws. Heimbach extended the margin to 57-50 with a three-pointer with 31 seconds remaining and Covert hit a pair at the line in the final 10 seconds to seal the victory.
Heimbach made five three's in a game for the seventh time in his career and extended his school record to 173. Covert was 6-for-12 from the field and 3-for-7 from beyond the arc and surpassed his previous season-high of 15 which he set in ESU's win over Mercy College last weekend at Shippensburg.

Mike Tobin had five points and 10 rebounds, including six on the offensive end. Senior guard
Robby Pines handed out four assists and freshman forward
Duane Johnson contributed five rebounds, five assists and three of the Warriors' five blocks.
Myer Messinger scored 16 points and Adewale Adefemi had 12 points and 15 rebounds for USP (0-4), which saw just six players dent the scoring column. Henry Messinger (six points) was the only scorer off the bench.
ESU continues its non-conference stretch on Friday and Saturday at the 45th Annual Pocono Classic at Koehler Fieldhouse. The Warriors host Queens (N.Y.) on Friday at 7 p.m. and UDC on Saturday at 7 p.m.
