CHEYNEY - Hakeem Townsend led all scorers with 24 points, including eight three-pointers, as Cheyney downed East Stroudsburg University 67-64 in PSAC East men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Townsend sank five of his threes in the game's first 5:58, helping Cheyney get out to an early 19-6 lead.

The Warriors fought back, tying the game at 25-all on a three-pointer by senior guard Dawud Lyons at the 5:04 mark in the first half. A layup by sophomore forward Mike Tobin three possessions later put ESU up 29-27 with 3:22 left. Cheyney regained the lead and went into halftime with a 33-29 advantage.

An 11-4 Cheyney run midway through the second half put them ahead 59-48. ESU battled back again, and a three by junior guard Darnell Moore brought the Warriors to within one at 65-64 with 57 seconds remaining in the game.

A layup by Maurice McPherson extended the Wolves lead to three with 23 second left. The Warriors took a timeout with 18 seconds left and junior guard Andy Heimbach's game-tying three-point attempt from 25 feet missed long.

Dominique Curry scored 14 points, including the 1,000th of his career, and added seven rebounds, seven assists, five steals and four blocks for Cheyney, which forced 17 turnovers.

Senior forward Chris Bach led ESU with 20 points, his tenth 20-point effort of the season, to go along with seven rebounds. Moore had a career-high 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting in 26 minutes of action. Heimbach was held without a three for the first time in his last 14 games.

ESU will play its final two games on the road as it looks for its fourth straight trip to the PSAC playoffs, which would be a first in program history. The Warriors are currently tied for fourth in the PSAC East and hold the tiebreaker with Mansfield. ESU will travel to Millersville and West Chester to close the regular season.
