ESU Baseball Pounds USP for Non-Conference Road Win

PHILADELPHIA - Senior outfielder Mike Bortz was 4-for-5 with four RBI and three other players had three hits each as East Stroudsburg University collected 26 hits in a 22-2 win at the University of the Sciences at Richie Ashburn Field on Thursday.

Senior 3B Mark Angelo was 3-for-4, senior 1B Chris Zsenak went 3-for-6 and junior DH John Pisker was 3-for-3 and scored three runs as the Warriors improved to 14-11 on the season entering this weekend's PSAC East series with West Chester which begins on Friday at 1 p.m. at Mitterling Field.

Nine of ESU's 26 hits went for extra bases and came from nine different players. Junior 3B Anthony Clemens hit a three-run home run and the Warriors collected eight doubles. All 14 ESU players who had at least one plate appearance had a hit in the game.

A pair of local products, junior Brendan O'Malley and freshman Carey Zimmerman, had a pair of runs batted in from the leadoff spot and freshmen Brandon Snyder, Ryan Guarino and Evan Gallagher had two RBI each. Guarino also scored three runs.

Freshman Chad Jacobson went 6.0 innings in the first start of his career and gave up one earned run while striking out three. Snyder threw the next two frames, allowing one hit and striking out one, and junior Kenny Serfass struck out two in a perfect ninth inning in his first career appearance on the mound.
