McCloskey Leads Warriors Track & Field at Lynchburg Invitational

Results from multis at UNC-Charlotte

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Junior Andrew McCloskey won the 100m and 200m dashes to lead six athletes that won individual events as East Stroudsburg University opened the outdoor track and field season at the Lynchburg Invitational at Liberty University on Saturday.

McCloskey turned in times of 10.98 seconds in the 100 and 21.87 seconds in the 200. Junior Chris Reddick, the PSAC indoor champion in the 200m, was second in 22.18 seconds.

Junior Niki Pasquarella won the 3000m steeplechase (11:54.9), sophomore Lynn Mayer took the high jump (5-5 3/4) and sophomore Allyson Cardullo (127-0 3/4) had the top throw in the javelin for the ESU women.

Junior Rusty Smith, coming off his All-America performance in the 60m hurdles at the NCAA Division II Championships, tied for first in the 400m hurdles in 56.31 seconds. Junior Drew Miller captured the triple jump with a mark of 46-10 1/2, and the men's 4x100m relay team of Asher Ashfield, Reddick, Jeff McClenton and McCloskey won with a time of 41.98 seconds.

In the women's sprints, sophomore Jasmine Johnson was second in both the 200m (25.78) and the 400m (57.57). Senior Katherine Doyle finished fourth behind Johnson in the 200 (25.95) and placed fifth in the 100m dash (12.77).

Freshman Devyn Emerich placed second in the high jump at 5-3 3/4 and junior Amanda Sines led the Warriors' throwers, finishing in the top 10 in the shot put, discus and hammer. Freshman Courtney Jackson was third in the javelin at 111-3 in her first collegiate event.

Freshman Greg Laraia was second and senior Mitch Slater was third in the men's 10000m run, and sophomore Chris Zadroga and junior Kyle Weir finished second and third in the 3000m steeplechase.

In the men's field events, junior Paul Wagner was just over two feet off his school record in the hammer with a throw of 177-3 1/2 and finished second in the hammer and third in the shot put. Sophomore Bill Buis (192-7) and freshman Josh Hontz (190-1 3/4) were second and third in the javelin.

Three Warriors were in the top five in the long jump in McClenton (2nd, 21-8 1/4), Miller (4th) and freshman Brandon Hillman (5th). Hillman was second behind Miller in the triple jump.

A trio of ESU athletes were also in action on Thursday and Friday at the UNC Charlotte 49ers Invitational. Freshman Dan Johnson and junior Colin Feeney were ninth and 10th in the decathlon, and freshman Anna Bixler placed ninth in the heptathlon.

Johnson (5,547 points) picked up his highest point total in the high jump, where he earned 687 points with a mark of 6-1 1/2. He was second in the 1500m run (4:43.15) and fourth in the javelin (153-2). Feeney's top event was the 100m dash (11.80, 691 points) and scored 5,382 points over the 10 events.

ESU travels to Moravian College in Bethlehem next weekend at the Lafayette 7-Way Meet.
