LEWISBURG - Junior Andrew McCloskey (100m dash) and sophomore Bill Buis (javelin) both reached NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standards and junior Paul Wagner improved his mark and set the school record in the hammer to lead the list of East Stroudsburg University athletes who turned in top performances at the Bison Outdoor Classic on Friday and Saturday at Bucknell University's Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.

McCloskey placed second in the 100m in 10.57 seconds, eclipsing the qualifying standard of 10.65 and just missing the school record of 10.55 set by Chad Braine in 1998. McCloskey won the 200m in 21.50 seconds one week after shattering ESU's record with a time of 21.48.

He also anchored the 4x100m relay team of Asher Ashfield, Chris Reddick and Jeff McClenton to a victory in the event (42.16 seconds) against a field that included seven Division I schools. Nearly 50 schools competed at Bucknell over the two-day event.

Wagner had one of the top days in his career at ESU as well, breaking his own school record and winning the hammer with a throw of 179-9, and had a personal best by four feet in the discus (157-10). The three-time PSAC champion also owns the indoor record in the weight throw.

Buis joined McCloskey and Wagner as national qualifiers with a throw of 201-1 to win the javelin. Junior Kenny Cardullo, an NCAA participant in the event as a freshman and sophomore, was third with a season-best of 192-3.

The Warriors turned in a total of 16 season-best performances at the meet, including Reddick's time of 21.72 seconds to finish second behind McCloskey in the 200m. The time was nearly a half-second faster than his best this season for the PSAC indoor champion in the event.

Junior Rusty Smith clocked a time of 14.67 seconds in the 110m hurdles for the third time in his career, which stands as the school record. He also ran 14.67 two weeks ago at Moravian, and as a sophomore at Liberty University.

Senior Katherine Doyle recorded a time of 12.51 seconds in the 100m dash and junior Niki Pasquarella lowered her season-best by 16 seconds in the steeplechase (11:38.0). The ESU women also saw sophomore Jasmine Johnson finish fifth in the 400m (57.73) and sophomore Lynn Mayer and junior Janelle Smith tie for third in the high jump at 5-5.

ESU also had several athletes compete at the West Chester Collegiate Invitational on Saturday, where four women won individual events - sophomore Brittany Knowles (110m hurdles, 15.43), junior Trina Carito (long jump, 16-9 1/4), sophomore Allyson Cardullo (javelin, 112-9) and junior Amanda Sines in the shot put (37-11 1/2) and hammer (147-11).

ESU hosts the fourth annual All-American Meet at Eiler-Martin Stadium next Saturday. The first events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
