EAST STROUDSBURG - The East Stroudsburg University track and field program piled up wins in 11 events, led by two victories each from juniors Jeff McClenton and Amanda Sines, at the Lehigh Invitational in Bethlehem on Saturday afternoon.
Four Warriors also competed at the Penn Relays on Saturday at Franklin Field. Junior Paul Wagner had the second-best throw of his career with a mark of 186-11 to finish fifth in the men's college hammer. Junior Kenny Cardullo (191-10) and sophomore Bill Buis (185-7) were 10th and 17th, respectively, in the javelin and junior Drew Miller had a mark of 46-9 in the triple jump.
McClenton posted the top time in the 100m dash, coming in at 11.16, and came in first in the long jump with a leap of 22-3 1/2 to lead the Warriors at Lehigh. He was one of four individual men's winners for ESU, along with senior Mitch Slater and junior Matt Gallup.
Slater crossed the line first in the 5000m with a time of 16:04.61 and Gallup was tops in the pole vault at 14-9 1/2.
The Warriors 4x400 relay team, comprised of freshmen Ben Koch, Sam Janssen, Dylan Laders and Dan Johnson, also came in first with a time of 3:33.30.
Sines registered the longest shot put (40-1 1/2) and discus (125-0) throws of the invitational, two of the five individual women's winners for ESU. Senior Katherine Doyle posted a victory in the 400m with a season-best time of 58.06 and sophomore Allyson Cardullo threw the javelin 125-3 1/2 for her fifth victory in the event this spring.
Four Warriors - juniors Trina Carito and Janelle Smith, sophomore Lynn Mayer and freshman Devyn Emerich - tied for first place in the high jump with a height of 5-5. Smith and Mayer each posted jumps of 5-7 at the Penn Relays last Thursday, which were NCAA provisional qualifying heights, and Emerich is also an NCAA provisional qualifier.
The women also boasted a 4x400 relay victory led by Carito on the anchor leg. The Warriors finished in a time of 4:08.83 as senior Kara Parrillo led off and junior Emily Hollick and freshman Kayla Littrell ran the second and third legs.
Carito was also third in the triple jump with a season best of 35-8 3/4. Junior Rusty Smith was second in the 400m hurdles (56.00) and freshman Josh Hontz was second in the javelin (10-1 3/4).
In the men's hammer, senior Tom Sutor finished second with an NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 179-1, less than a foot off the school record that was held by Wagner before his throw of 190-7 at that set the PSAC record at the ESU All-America Meet last weekend.
The Warriors are back on the track on Friday, May 1 at the Kutztown Invitational.
