MILLERSVILLE - Junior Andrew McCloskey broke his own school record in the 200m dash and won the 100 and 200 for the second time in three weeks to help the East Stroudsburg University men's track and field program finish second at the PSAC East Challenge on Saturday at Millersville.
McCloskey's time of 21.48 seconds lowered his mark of 21.57 that he set a year ago at the same meet at West Chester. He won the 100 in a season-best time of 10.75 seconds and was one of four ESU men to win their events, as the Warriors edged Kutztown by 9.5 points to place second behind Shippensburg. McCloskey also won the 100-200 double at the Lynchburg Invitational two weeks ago to open the outdoor season.
Senior Kristen Morby also set a school record on the women's side, clearing 10-6 1/2 in the pole vault to break a tie at 10-6 that she shared with sophomore Steph Weber. The women's squad had three individual winners and was third with 139.5 points, finishing behind Shippensburg and Kutztown and easily outdistancing host Millersville, which was fourth.
Sophomore Matt Cook (5000m, 16:07.87), junior Drew Miller (triple jump, 47-7 3/4) and junior Paul Wagner (discus, 146-11) were winners for the Warriors men, along with the 4x100m relay team of Asher Ashfield, Chris Reddick, Jeff McClenton and McCloskey which finished with a time of 42.18 seconds.
For the women, junior Janelle Smith (high jump, 5-4 1/2), junior Amanda Sines (shot put, 38-7) and sophomore Allyson Cardullo (javelin, 128-11) all finished first in their events. The 4x100m relay team of Alyssa Rupp, Jasmine Johnson, Amilee Schillinger and Katherine Doyle gave the Warriors a fourth first-place finish, clocking a hand-timed result of 49.3 seconds.
McCloskey's double led an ESU men's team that had 11 top-three performances. Miller won the triple jump and was third in the long jump (21-11), Wagner was first in the discus, second in the hammer (175-10) and third in the shot put (47-3 3/4) and junior Rusty Smith (110m hurdles, 2nd), freshman Dan Johnson (high jump, 3rd) and junior Kenny Cardullo (javelin, 3rd) also finished in the top three for the Warriors.
On the women's side, ESU took the top four places in the high jump, with Mayer winning the event, sophomore Lynn Mayer finishing second and junior Trina Carito and freshman Devyn Emerich tying for third. Morby was second in the pole vault and Sines won the shot put and was third in the hammer.
Rupp, a freshman, tied for second in the 100m dash in 12.95 seconds, junior Emily Hollick was second in the 400m hurdles (1:07.11) and Johnson was third in the 200m (25.49) to pace the individual performances on the track. The 4x400m squad of Kara Parrillo, Johnson, Hollick and Doyle was second in 4:04.46.
The Warriors continue their outdoor schedule next weekend at the Bison Classic at Bucknell and the West Chester Invitational.
