Warriors Host Marauders in PSAC East Opener

9/1/2009 12:00:00 AM

EAST STROUDSBURG - The East Stroudsburg University men's soccer team will look to avenge last year's 3-2 overtime loss to Millersville in the PSAC semifinals when the Warriors host the Marauders in the PSAC East opener for both schools on Wednesday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

ESU, picked as the preseason favorite in the PSAC East by a 3-2 vote by the division's coaches, owns the all-time series 41-11-3 but has come up empty in the last four meetings.

Both teams lost their top scorer from last year, Roshane Ellison (17 goals) for ESU and Sean McLaughlin (14 goals) for Millersville, but return seven starters, including both starting goalkeepers, going into this year's first match-up.

The Warriors (1-1) are led by five seniors who have been All-PSAC selections during their careers in back Danny Drago, midfielders Shane McFarlane and Jason Rudder, forward Toric Robinson and goalkeeper Larry Pokrywa. Drago is a two-time All-American and Robinson has seven career goals and 20 assists.

Millersville (1-0), which climbed to No. 3 in this week's NSCAA/adidas Division II poll, counters with Kyle Loughlin (7 goals, 9 assists last season) and Pat Baffuto on offense and three-year starter Matt Langione in goal. Baffuto scored twice in Millersville's 4-3 win over Philadelphia University in the season opener.

The women's game will precede the men's match-up at 5 p.m. The Warriors (2-1), coming off consecutive PSAC semifinal appearances, have a young, talented team led by junior forward Lindsay Foder, the reigning PSAC East Player of the Week, who has scored 12 goals in her last 16 games. ESU starts five freshmen and has outscored its opponents 9-3 through the first three contests.
