EAST STROUDSBURG – Eric Simonds converted a penalty kick 5:24 into overtime to give Bloomsburg a 1-0 win over East Stroudsburg University in the final game of the first half of the PSAC East men's soccer schedule on Tuesday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

ESU (4-4-1, 1-2-1) held a 28-11 advantage in shots in regulation, but Bloomsburg goalkeeper David Leiendecker made nine saves and the Huskies defenders were credited with three team saves. The Warriors put on nearly constant pressure through the 90 minutes of regulation, culminating with a chance that was just knocked over the crossbar by senior midfielder Toric Robinson in the closing seconds.

Bloomsburg (4-1-2, 2-1-1) had a couple of shots early in the overtime period and threatened again with a breakaway that senior goalkeeper Larry Pokrywa was forced to break up with a hard challenge. Pokrywa was whistled for a foul on the play, and Simonds stepped up to the penalty spot to end the game midway through the extra session.

Pokrywa made six saves and hadn't allowed a goal since a 3-2 (2OT) loss at Philadelphia University on September 9. The Warriors shut out Shippensburg 2-0 last Wednesday and played 110 minutes in a scoreless tie at West Chester on Saturday. Pokrywa has 25 shutouts in 51 career starts in goal for ESU.

The Warriors are back at Eiler-Martin Stadium on Saturday when they host Slippery Rock in a non-conference game at noon.
