LEWISBURG – Freshman Lauren Ventrella broke the school record in the 60m hurdles in both the prelims and the finals and junior Asher Ashfield tied the men's record in the 60m dash to lead East Stroudsburg University at the Bucknell Heptagonal on Saturday.

Ventrella and senior Drew Miller reached NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks, with Miller looking for his third career trip to the NCAA's in the triple jump. Miller was second in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump to help the Warriors men place third of the six schools and finish ahead of Shippensburg, the 2009 PSAC indoor and outdoor champions.

Ventrella ran times of 9.06 seconds in the prelims and 8.97 in the finals to shatter the previous 60m hurdles record of 9.21 set by Jayme Ferraro in 2006. She finished second in both the prelims and the finals. Junior Jasmine Johnson was third in the 500m (1:18.35) for the Warriors.

Sophomore Devyn Emerich won the high jump at 5-5, with junior Lynn Mayer second and senior Trina Carito fourth, also at 5-5. Senior Janelle Smith gave ESU four of the top five spots with a height of 5-3.

On the men's side, the Warriors won four events – senior Rusty Smith in the 60m hurdles (8.27), senior Chris Reddick in the 200m (22.11), junior Negus Graham in the 400m (50.06) and senior Paul Wagner in the weight throw (54-4).

Ashfield was sixth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.09 seconds to equal the time posted by Jeff McClenton in 2008. Freshman Ian Melhorn was seventh in the finals at 7.11, and was second to Reddick in the 200m with a time of 22.49.

The Warriors were third in the 4x400m relay, with Graham, sophomore Steve Greer, Reddick and junior Greg Pammer turning in a time of 3:22.52.

In the field events, Miller had marks of 47-11 in the triple jump to provisionally qualify for the NCAA championships and 22-0 3/4 in the long jump. Sophomore Dan Johnson was third in the high jump with a height of 6-4 1/4.

ESU will compete next weekend at the Thomson Invitational at the University of Delaware.
