ESU Basketball Program Notes vs. West Chester

WOMEN'S GAME - West Chester 82, ESU 55

THE MATCH-UP: East Stroudsburg University plays host to visiting West Chester in this afternoon's women's basketball match-up in the PSAC East. The Warriors are coming off a 47-44 loss to Mansfield on Wednesday night, while the Golden Rams fell 76-56 at Kutztown. ESU is 3-4 on its home floor this season, with three of the last four games decided by three points or less.

LAST TIME OUT:
Mallory Moore had 19 points, 14 rebounds and eight steals and Mansfield overcame 39 turnovers in a 47-44 win over ESU on Wednesday night. Moore was 11-for-11 at the foul line, part of a 19-for-20 night for the Mounties.

R-So. F Brittany McClain led ESU with a career-high 12 points and had 10 in the first half, including three three-pointers. Sr. F DeAnna Rayam added 11 points and Sr. C Alexa Detzi had eight points on 4-for-6 shooting. The Warriors came up with 23 steals, including career-highs from Sr. G Mel Villano (seven) and So. F Jennifer Scherer (five).

PINK ZONE:
ESU is holding its annual WBCA “Pink Zone” event this afternoon. All proceeds raised will benefit the PA Breast Cancer Coalition, a local non-profit organization, with funds helping to support breast cancer survivors and their families in Pennsylvania. The Warriors will be wearing pink t-shirts for warm-ups and donning pink socks donated by Schuylkill Valley Sports, and “Pink Zone” t-shirts will be available for purchase inside the entrance to Koehler Fieldhouse.


MEN'S GAME - ESU 89, West Chester 78

THE MATCH-UP:
No. 22 ESU returns to action this afternoon against PSAC East rival West Chester after going to overtime for the second time in three games on Wednesday vs. Mansfield. The Warriors improved to 17-1 and bring a share of the PSAC East lead (4-1) into today's game thanks to another balanced scoring effort, strong defense down the stretch and two free throws with 5 seconds left by Sr. G Robby Pines. WCU beat Mansfield 89-75 and dropped a 80-69 decision at Kutztown in its last two games.

LAST TIME OUT: Pines' free throws capped a 16-for-20 showing at the line for ESU, which leads the PSAC at 74 percent. Fr. F Terrance King scored six of his team-high 13 points in overtime and had 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks and Jr. F Mike Tobin and Jr. G Micah Covert scored 11 points each. The Warriors had just 10 turnovers, the third time in five PSAC East games they have turned it over 10 times or less.

The win gave ESU a 17-1 record for the second time in school history (1941-42). The Warriors have been nationally-ranked for three straight weeks - the only other time they have been ranked was in 1991-92.
