THE MATCH-UP: East Stroudsburg University returns home to host Cheyney after breaking a six-game losing streak with a 65-14 win at Millersville last Saturday. The Warriors take on a Cheyney team that earned a 20-17 win at Millersville on Oct. 2 to end a 32-game losing streak overall and a 24-game streak vs. the PSAC East.

DAY OF DEDICATIONS:
ESU will hold two ceremonies to dedicate specific areas of Eiler-Martin Stadium during and after Saturday's game. At halftime, a ceremony will be held to dedicate the “Dr. Jake Piatt '61 President's Box”. Piatt was a four-year starter on the line for the Warriors from 1957-60 and returned to ESU as a professor in 1991. He was named Chair of the Professional and Secondary Education Department in 2001 and was inducted to the ESU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007. Piatt passed away in January 2008 and is survived by his wife, Trudy, a major financial contributor to ESU and its fundraising efforts.

Immediately following the conclusion of Saturday's game, the playing surface will be dedicated as “Gregory-Douds Field at Eiler-Martin Stadium”, commemorating the long-standing service of former head football coach Jack Gregory and current head coach Denny Douds.

Gregory is considered the father of modern day football at ESU, leading his teams to a 49-11-2 record for a program-record .806 winning percentage from 1959-65. He won PSAC championships in 1964 and 1965 and also guided the Warriors to the PSAC East title in 1962.

Douds joined the Warriors' coaching staff in 1966 and was named the eighth head coach in program history in 1974. He holds the PSAC record with 228 career victories and has coached in 215 of the 317 games played at Eiler-Martin Stadium since 1938, including 182 as head coach.

The dedications of both the playing surface and President's Box were made possible through the generosity and financial commitments of Mrs. Trudy Piatt, the cooperation of private donors, financial support from East Stroudsburg University and the ESU Foundation.

THE HEAD COACHES:
Denny Douds (Slippery Rock '63) holds the PSAC record for career wins with a 228-152-3 record in his 37th season as head football coach at ESU. He is in his 45th season at ESU overall. For more on Coach Douds and the ESU coaching staff, please see page 12 of the game notes.

Jeff Braxton (Salisbury State) is in his third season as head coach at Cheyney and has a career record of 1-29. He came to the PSAC from Delaware State, and has also coached at Bowie State, Hofstra, Towson, Fordham, Wesley, Morehouse and Tennessee State.

THE SERIES: ESU won last year's meeting 37-0 for its 30th straight win over Cheyney, which extended the NCAA Division II record for consecutive wins over one opponent in an uninterruped series. The Warriors own the all-time series 53-1, with Cheyney's 7-3 win during its 1979 PSAC East championship season the only blemish. ESU has scored at least 35 points every year since putting up a series-record 78 points in 1996, and has averaged 49.1 points per game during that span.

DEMANDING SCHEDULE: The Warriors' strength of schedule through the first seven games was the 10th-toughest in Division II (out of 136 schools). ESU's six straight losses came to teams with a combined record of 32-10 entering last weekend. Conversely, the Warriors had the 10th-easiest schedule going into their final four games and opened that stretch with last Saturday's 65-14 at Millersville.

ESU's six straight losses matched the third-longest losing streak in school history. The Warriors lost six straight games each year from 1985-87 and had seven-game losing streaks in 1985-86.

IN THE FRONT ROW:
The offensive line was shaken up due to injury and illness from weeks 4-6, but the Warriors are back to their original 5 offensive linemen over the past 2 weeks with one change.

R-Jr. Zach Sarginger, the starting RT the first 5 games, has flipped to LT with R-So. Wrenton Wright II moving back to RT, where he started all 12 games last season. Wright II missed the Kutztown game due to illness, and an injury to R-Fr. RG Greg Blue forced ESU offensive line coach Mike Santella to field a lineup that had just one player (R-Jr. C Dan Caffrey) starting in the same position where he lined up the week before.

Entering the season, the Warriors returned 4 of their 5 starters on the offensive line from 2009, all underclassmen. LT Morgan Thomas was 1st team All-PSAC East and 2nd team All-Region last year after starting 42 career games.

The Warriors' projected starters for week 9, from left to right:
• LT R-Jr. Zach Sarginger - 19 career starts (last 3 games at LT, first 5 at RT - 11 at RG in 2009)
• started all 12 games at RG in 2009 and was Academic All-District selection
• LG R-So. Seve Rivers - 17 career starts (15 at LG, 2 at RG - started 9 games at LG in 2009)
• C R-Jr. Dan Caffrey - has started all 31 games at C in his career
• RG R-Fr. Greg Blue - 6 career starts at RG (started first 5 games - returned to lineup last week)
• LT R-So. Wrenton Wright II - 19 career starts (14 at RT, 5 at LT - started all 12 at RT in 2009)

Fr. Jordan Kain and Jr. Vinnie Bonavita have also made their first career starts this season. Kain started at RT vs. Kutztown before an injury, and Bonavita started at LG vs. Kutztown and C.W. Post.
