Six Players Hit Double Figures in Warriors’ 119-64 Win vs. PSU-Schuylkill

EAST STROUDSBURG – Sophomore forward Duane Johnson scored 16 points to lead six players in double figures as East Stroudsburg University opened the 2010-11 men's basketball season with a 119-64 win over PSU-Schuylkill on Saturday at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Junior guard Russell Graham III scored 14 points in his debut for the Warriors, senior guard Mike DeMarco and sophomore forward Terrance King scored 12 points and senior guard Micah Covert and sophomore forward Marcus Brown had 10 points each for the Warriors.

ESU is coming off a record-setting season which included a 24-6 record, a share of the PSAC East regular season championship and the second appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament in school history. The Warriors played a pair of very competitive exhibitions against Division I schools Penn State and Binghamton, and were able to play all 14 players at least 10 minutes on Saturday.

Johnson and King both scored 12 points in the first half, Covert had 10 and Graham scored nine as ESU opened a 67-28 halftime lead. ESU's 119 points are tied for the second-most in school history.

Johnson tied his career-high with 16 points, shot 6-for-8 from the field, 4-for-4 from the foul line and added five rebounds and three assists. Graham shot 6-for-7 and made his only three-point attempt, posted five assists and no turnovers. Covert tied his career-best with six assists and DeMarco had five assists and four steals.

Senior forward Mike Tobin had eight points, six rebounds and six steals and enters the season as ESU's leading returning scorer and rebounder. Redshirt freshman forward Dan Clapp had one point and 11 rebounds in his first career action.

The Warriors hit 12 three-pointers, including three by redshirt sophomore guard Matt Labick, who finished with a career-high nine points. Sophomore guard Gerald Bridges, Jr. had eight points and seven rebounds and sophomore guard Blair Ramsey, Bridges' high school teammate, scored seven in his first game at ESU after transferring from Adrian (Mich.).

The rest of the Warriors' scorers were junior forward Eric Bryan and freshman guard Will Brown with five each and redshirt freshman forward Andre Howard with two points.

ESU is back in action on Monday, Nov. 22 with a trip to Lock Haven for a non-conference game at 7:30 p.m.
