ESU Basketball Program Notes vs. Bloomsburg

WOMEN'S GAME - Bloomsburg 72, ESU 41

THE MATCH-UP:
East Stroudsburg University opens the second half of PSAC East play tonight against Bloomsburg after last Saturday's home game against Kutztown was postponed to Monday, Feb. 15.

LAST TIME OUT:
ESU battled PSAC East leader Millersville to the wire last Wednesday as the Marauders grinded out a 55-46 win. The Warriors scored eight straight points to pull within 48-42 with 3:28 left, and the fourth 3-pointer of the game by Fr. G Barb Borst made the score 50-45 with just over one minute to play before Millersville went 5-for-6 from the foul line to seal the victory.

Borst scored a career-high 12 points for the Warriors and Sr. F DeAnna Rayam had nine points, seven rebounds and five assists, the first game this season that she hasn't scored in double figures. ESU trailed 26-22 at halftime and stunned Millersville with the first five points of the second half to go ahead before the Marauders held on down the stretch.

Rayam is two 3-pointers away from becoming the fourth player in school history with 100 made 3's. She leads ESU in scoring (14.1), rebounding (6.3) and assists (46). Sr. G Mel Villano is scoring a career-high 8.1 ppg and is 10th in the PSAC in 3-point percentage (37.9).

SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG: Dana Wieller leads all freshmen and is 6th in the PSAC in scoring at 17.1 ppg, Kelsey Gallagher averages 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds and Kayla Oxenrider scores 10.2 ppg. Alyssa Flanagan leads the Huskies in both assists (87) and steals (50).

THE MATCH-UP:
No. 12 ESU brings the highest-ever ranking in school history into tonight's game with Bloomsburg. A win would give the Warriors the sixth 20-win season in school history and their first since 1991-92. ESU has won six straight games, including a 101-96 (2OT) win at Bloomsburg on Jan. 20 when the Warriors overcame a 15-point deficit in the final 7:30 of regulation.

LAST TIME OUT:
ESU took control of the game with a 15-0 first-half run to earn a 72-63 win at Millersville last Wednesday. Sr. G Andy Heimbach scored 18 points and hit two 3-pointers during the decisive spurt in 2:30 midway through the first half that gave ESU a 26-8 lead.

Fr. F Marcus Brown and Fr. F Duane Johnson both scored 10 points and Jr. F Mike Tobin had 8 points and 10 rebounds. Brown was named the PSAC East Freshman of the Week to give ESU the last five award-winners and eight of the first 12 (Terrance King 4, Johnson 3, Brown 1).

Heimbach and Sr. G Robby Pines are closing in on career marks at ESU - Heimbach is 20 points away from tying for 20th in career scoring (1,065), and Pines is 11 assists from the top 10 (257). Pines leads the PSAC and is 9th in Division II with 6.5 assists per game this season.

SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG: The Huskies (8-12, 2-6) have lost three overtime games, all at home, and a one-point game to Mansfield in PSAC East play. Ruben Britt (12.8 ppg), Trevon Johnson (12.7), Adon El (12.3) and Larry Webster (10.3) are all in double figures for the season.
