WOMEN'S GAME - Cheyney 73, ESU 61

THE MATCH-UP: The Warriors host Cheyney coming off of their best all-around offensive performance of the season in a 68-63 win at Mansfield on Wednesday night. The Wolves won the first meeting of the year, 76-52, at Cope Hall on January 23.

LAST TIME OUT: Sr. F Deanna Rayam scored 18 points to become the 13th 1,000-point scorer in ESU women's basketball history in the Warriors' win at Mansfield. Rayam was coming off a career-best 32 points on Monday night against Kutztown and finished the game with 1,012 points. Fr. G Barb Borst scored a career-high 15 points and didn't miss a shot, going 5-for-5 from the field and 2-for-2 at the foul line, and So. G Cyara Woodridge scored 12 points. ESU had season-highs in field goal percentage (47.2), 3-point percentage (53.3, 8-15) and assists (19).

LAST MEETING/SCOUTING CHEYNEY: Stephanie Orji scored 24 of her career-high 31 points in the first half and had 14 rebounds to lead Cheyney to its win on Jan. 23. So. F Jennifer Scherer tied her career-high with 13 points and had eight rebounds for ESU, and Rayam and Sr. G Mel Villano scored 12 points each. Luftiyya Muhammad (14.5 ppg), Angel Stephens (14.4) and Orji (12.0) are Cheyney's top scorers, and Stephens is four points away from 1,000 for her career.

ESU 1,000 POINT SCORERS: ESU will recognize its 36 1,000-point scorers between today's games, including five women who have scored 1,500 points - Jackie Yandrisevits (1,784), Claudine Simard (1,733), Stacy Perryman (1,695), Tonia Lloyd (1,675) and Lori Pio (1,527).


MEN'S GAME - No. 17 ESU 63, Cheyney 55 (OT)

THE MATCH-UP: No. 17 ESU meets Cheyney for the second time this season in a pivotal PSAC East match-up. The Wolves lead the East with an 8-3 record, while the Warriors are tied for second with Kutztown and Mansfield at 7-4. ESU posted a 77-73 victory at Cheyney last month.

LAST TIME OUT: Yuseff Carr had 21 points and 10 rebounds as Mansfield dealt ESU the third loss in its last four games, 71-61, on Wednesday. The Warriors entered the game at No. 4 in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region in this week's rankings. Sr. G Robby Pines had 14 points, five assists and five steals for ESU, which led by 13 points after an 18-2 run late in the first half before Mansfield rattled off a similar run in the second half to go ahead.

Pines entered the week ranked 8th in Division II in assists (6.5) and tied for 13th in steals (2.5), leads the PSAC in assists and is 3rd in steals. ESU's balanced scoring has eight players averaging 7.0 ppg, including Fr. F Marcus Brown who has 10 points in 4 of the last 5 games.

LAST MEETING/SCOUTING CHEYNEY:
ESU used a 9-0 run late in the game and a 25-for-31 effort from the foul line in the second half to improve to 16-1 with a 77-73 win. Sr. G Andy Heimbach scored 11 points, including the 1,000th of his career, to lead the Warriors and hit a jumper with 3:25 left to spark the closing stretch. Pines added 10 points and 7 assists. Sharif Bray scored 17 points, 15 in the second half, for Cheyney. Bray is second in the PSAC in scoring with 22.1 ppg and is 139-165 at the foul line (84.2 pct.), and Tamir Smith averages 14.2 ppg.
