HAVERFORD – Senior Trina Carito won the triple jump, finished third in the 55m hurdles and high jump and ran on the winning 4x400m relay team to lead East Stroudsburg University's performances on Friday night at the Keough Invitational at Haverford College.

Carito had a season-best of 35-8 3/4 in the triple jump and was one of seven Warriors to win individual events. ESU also won three of the four relays in its final preparation for the 2010 PSAC Championships, which will be held next weekend at Edinboro.

Freshman Lauren Ventrella, an NCAA provisional qualifier in the 60m hurdles, won the 55m dash in 7.39 seconds. Senior Janelle Smith, another provisional qualifier, led a sweep of the top four spots in the high jump and was followed by sophomore Devyn Emerich, Carito and senior Emily Hollick, who all went over at 5-4 1/4.

Hollick, junior Jasmine Johnson, Carito and Ventrella won the 4x400 relay in 4:06.89. The 4x200 relay of freshman Tara Getz, Johnson, freshman Lauren Hannan and Ventrella had a season-best time of 1:46.89 and finished third.

On the men's side, freshman Corey Young (7.93 seconds) edged classmate Kyle Soden (7.94) for first in the 55m hurdles. Soden took the high jump at 6-2 3/4 and anchored the winning 4x200 relay team of freshmen Jesus Maldonado and Ian Melhorn and junior Negus Graham that ran the second-best time in school history in 1:29.63.

The Warriors' second entry in the relay – juniors Greg Pammer and Asher Ashfield, senior Chris Reddick and Young – finished second in 1:30.85. Reddick, Melhorn, Pammer and Graham easily won the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:18.25, better than their time of 3:19.15 at the DeSchriver Invitational two weeks ago. Their NCAA provisional time of 3:15.74 was run on a banked track at the Armory last weekend.

Two more provisional qualifiers also won their events. Senior Matthew Gallup cleared 16-2 3/4 in the pole vault for the second straight week to tie his school record, and senior Drew Miller won the triple jump (48-0 3/4) and was fourth in the long jump (21-8 1/4).

The Warriors had several other strong performances on the track. Getz was fourth in the 400 (1:01.31), a season-best by more than three seconds, and freshman Corinne Fitzgerald finished fifth in the 3000 (10:56.41) in her first effort at the distance this year.

For the ESU men, Ashfield finished second in the 55 (6.59), Maldonado was third in the 200 (23.18), freshman Mike Saparito was fourth in the 800 (1:57.77), freshman Frank Fezza was fifth in the mile (4:15.59) and junior Chris Zadroga placed fourth in the 3000 (8:56.41). Fezza ran the mile for the first time this season and turned in ESU's best time of the year by more than 10 seconds.
