PALM BEACH, Fla. – Sophomore Chad Jacobson pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win and redshirt senior DH John Pisker drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the fifth inning as East Stroudsburg University beat Northwood (Fla.), 2-1, to split a doubleheader to open the Palm Beach Classic on Friday.

Freshman Mike Glassic went the first 4.1 innings on the mound, allowing one run on two hits and striking out six, and Jacobson got the first batter he faced to ground into a double play to get the Warriors out of the top of the fifth inning with a 1-0 deficit.

ESU scored both of its runs in the bottom of the inning as sophomore SS Evan Gallagher singled and scored on a double by redshirt sophomore Jake Grisemer, and Pisker knocked in Griesemer with a base hit. Jacobson did the rest of the work on the mound in his second appearance of the day to earn the victory.

Northwood won the opener 3-1, scoring twice in the first inning to go ahead. Senior left-hander Christian Saveri, the reigning PSAC East Pitcher of the Week after taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning of his first start of the year, went five innings (3 runs, 5 strikeouts) and Jacobson pitched the sixth.

In the opener, the Warriors scored their only run in the second when Pisker walked, went first to third on a base hit by freshman OF Eric Boyer and scored on a sacrifice fly by senior C Brendan O'Connor.

Gallagher went 2-for-4 in the first game and 1-for-2 in the second game as ESU's leadoff hitter and has a team-high .381 batting average (8-for-21) through the first six games of the season.

ESU takes on Wilmington (Del.) and Pitt-Johnstown in a pair of games on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m.
