PALM BEACH, Fla. – Freshman Brian Ernst and senior Jeremy Gigliotti both had strong performances on the mound and East Stroudsburg University's pitching staff has yielded just five runs in its first four games in Florida after posting a pair of wins, 3-1 over Wilmington and 8-0 over Pitt-Johnstown, on Saturday at the Palm Beach Classic.

Ernst threw eight innings against Wilmington, giving up one run on five hits and striking out six, and has a 1.17 ERA while winning his first two starts this season. Sophomore Ryan Beck pitched the ninth to pick up his second save of the year.

Gigliotti was just as effective against Pitt-Johnstown, ranked seventh in the NCBWA Atlantic Region poll. The preseason All-American left-hander didn't allow a run in five innings to pick up his first win of the season, and was supported by an offense that had 11 hits and put together a six-run fifth inning to break up a scoreless game.

The Warriors are 4-4 on the season after winning three of their first four games in Florida. They split a doubleheader with Northwood (Fla.) on Friday, winning the second game 2-1 behind the pitching of freshman Mike Glassic and sophomore Chad Jacobson after a 3-1 loss in the opener.

Against Wilmington, the Wildcats scored their run off Ernst in the fifth inning before ESU tied the game with a two-out rally in the bottom of the inning and went ahead with two runs in the seventh. Junior 3B Jason Kelmer started both scoring chances with singles and scored on a base hit by senior C Brendan O'Connor in the fifth. In the sixth, Kelmer and Ernst singled and O'Connor walked to load the bases, and sophomore SS Evan Gallagher had a two-run double as part of a 3-for-4 day at the plate.

The Pitt-Johnstown game was a match-up of a pair of All-Region starters, Gigliotti for ESU and junior Kaleb Fleck for UPJ, and the scoreboard was empty for the first 4 1/2 frames before the Warriors put together their six-run inning to knock Fleck from the game

Redshirt sophomore 3B Jake Griesemer had a two-run single to start the damage, senior OF Kenny Serfass drove in a run with a double and freshman 1B Tom Spilatore and freshman CF Eric Boyer had sacrifice flies before freshman C Nico Delerme finished the inning with an RBI single.

ESU added runs in the sixth and seventh innings, on a sacrifice fly by redshirt senior DH John Pisker and solid base running by Boyer, who doubled and later scored on a passed ball. The pitching staff did the rest to wrap up the Warriors' first shutout of the year, with freshman Colin Kelly throwing three scoreless innings (4 strikeouts, 3 hits) and freshman Mike Muglia striking out two while pitching around a hit and a walk in the ninth.

Freshman OF Evan Cain was 3-for-4 and scored two runs and sophomore 2B Ryan Guarino was 2-for-4 vs. UPJ.

Gallagher was 0-for-3, the first time in eight games this year that he hasn't collected a hit. The sophomore shortstop is hitting .393 (11-for-28) this season after posting a .360 average as a freshman.

The Warriors are off on Sunday and return to the field on Monday with an 11:30 a.m. doubleheader against the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP).
