BLOOMSBURG – Senior Trina Carito reached the NCAA Division II provisional standard in the heptathlon to pace East Stroudsburg University's entrants at the inaugural Bloomsburg Husky Open on Saturday at Redman Stadium.

Carito scored 4,538 points over the seven events, placing her 15th on the national performance list through this weekend, and won the event by 410 points over Nicole Sliva from Harvard.

She had the top performance in the final three events – long jump (16-7), javelin (105-11) and 800m run (2:26.58) – and finished second in the high jump (5-2 1/2) and 200m dash (27.14), third in the shot put (32-2 1/4) and fourth in the 100m hurdles (15.57).

Carito has made two appearances at the NCAA championships in the multis, competing in the heptathlon as a sophomore in 2008 and the pentathlon last month at the indoor championships. She also won the PSAC title in both events.

She joins five other ESU athletes who have provisionally qualified for the NCAA outdoor championships this spring – Lynn Mayer (high jump), Matthew Gallup (pole vault), Drew Miller (triple jump), Chris Reddick (400m) and Paul Wagner (hammer throw). Gallup added his name to the provisional list with a mark of 16-2 3/4 at Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday.

The Warriors' women's throwers also had a strong showing at Bloomsburg. Senior Amanda Sines won the hammer (150-1) and shot put (37-9 1/4) and was fourth in the discus (113-0). Junior Danielle Laws was second in both the hammer (141-1) and discus (119-5), and junior Jessica Sekely completed a sweep of the top three spots in the hammer with a throw of 129-4.

Freshman Jesus Maldonado had the top finish of the men's side, winning the 200m in 22.78 seconds. Senior Colin Feeney and sophomore Dan Johnson, both multi-event athletes, competed in the javelin, long jump and discus.

ESU hosts the fifth annual All-American Meet on Saturday at Eiler-Martin Stadium, with the first events beginning at 10 a.m.
