EAST STROUDSBURG – Redshirt sophomore 3B Jake Griesemer drove in freshman OF Eric Boyer for the game-winning run in the seventh inning of a 6-5 win in game one, and freshman left-hander Mike Muglia threw six strong innings in a 6-2 victory in the nightcap as East Stroudsburg University swept Washington Adventist in a non-conference baseball doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Mitterling Field.

The Warriors scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the opener and used Muglia's performance and timely hitting in the second game to move to .500 (16-16) on the season with five wins in their last six games.

The top three spots in the order – freshman OF Evan Cain (3-7), sophomore SS Evan Gallagher (5-7) and Boyer (3-6) – went 11-for-20 and scored nine of ESU's 12 runs in the twinbill. Gallagher is hitting .386 this season, while Boyer continued his torrid play of late, going 19-for-39 (.487) since March 27.

The Warriors scored three runs in the first inning in the opener, as Cain led off with a single, Gallagher cracked an RBI double, Boyer had a base hit to plate Gallagher and later scored on a ground ball.

WAU scored five runs in the next three frames to go ahead 5-3 before senior 1B Kenny Serfass led off the bottom of the fourth with his fourth home run of the season, a shot down the left field line, to make it 5-4.

ESU had three strong performances out of the bullpen to hold the deficit at one until the offense won it in the seventh. Freshman Kevin Steinberger allowed one run and struck out four in 2.2 innings and freshman Colin Kelly (0 hits, 2 strikeouts) and sophomore Ryan Beck (2 hits, 2 strikeouts) both threw scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh.

Gallagher and Boyer both singled to start the seventh and junior Jason Kelmer moved Gallagher to third with a fly ball to the gap in right for the first out of the inning.

Freshman DH Brian Ernst followed with a sacrifice fly to right that scored Gallagher and tied the game at 5-5, and Boyer moved up on a throwing error by the right fielder. The miscue proved to be critical as Grisemer singled to left and Boyer scored from second for the winning run.

In game two, Muglia made his third start of the year and held Washington Adventist to one hit in the first four innings. He gave up five hits in his 6.0 innings of work and got seven groundouts, six flyouts and four strikeouts as the Warriors didn't commit an error behind him.

ESU took a 1-0 lead in the first when Cain and Gallagher singled to start the inning and Cain scored on a sacrifice fly by Ernst. WAU tied the score on a double steal in the third before the Warriors plated three in the bottom of the inning to take control.

Cain was hit by a pitch to start the inning, Gallagher singled for his fifth hit of the day and Boyer drove in Cain with a single and advanced to second on the throw. Gallagher scored on a ground out by Kelmer and Boyer came home on a wild pitch to give ESU a 4-1 lead.

Griesemer scored the Warriors' final two runs on an RBI single by sophomore CF Carey Zimmerman in the fourth and a sacrifice fly from Zimmerman in the sixth.

Sophomore Chad Jacobson pitched a scoreless seventh in relief of Muglia, his 17th appearance of the season to move into ESU's single season top 10.

The Warriors travel to Lincoln University for a doubleheader on Thursday. They face Millersville in a four-game PSAC East series this weekend and host the Marauders in a Friday afternoon twinbill beginning at 1 p.m.
