BLOOMSBURG – Bloomsburg took three of four games from East Stroudsburg University in this weekend's PSAC East baseball series after posting 3-1 and 15-8 wins on Saturday at Litwhiler Field.
Senior
Christian Saveri, who picked up the save in ESU's 5-3 win in game two on Friday, tied his career-high with 10 strikeouts in the first game on Saturday. Saveri also had 10 strikeouts in an 8-1 victory in his conference start against Bloomsburg last season.
Bloomsburg starter Joe Crossin gave up one run on seven hits in 6.1 innings before
Mike Rossetti got the final two outs for the save.
In the second game, the Huskies (9-21, 5-9) had 17 hits and Rossetti (3.0 innings, two unearned runs) was the winning pitcher after starter David Langton left with an injury after two innings of work. Every Husky in the lineup had a hit, led by centerfielder Devin McLaughlin who was 3-for-5.
In the opener, the Warriors (11-13, 2-8) got on the board in the fourth on an RBI double by freshman RF
Eric Boyer that scored junior DH Jason Kelmer after Saveri and Crossin matched zeroes through the first three innings.
Bloomsburg scored two runs in the fifth as McLaughlin singled and Joey Ianiero doubled to drive in runs after Nick Eversole drew a two-out walk. Gino Wise provided an insurance run with a solo homer to lead off the seventh for a 3-1 lead. Redshirt freshman
Kyle Evans relieved Saveri after a one-out double by Eversole and retired the next two batters to get out of the inning.
The Warriors produced two base runners in the bottom of the seventh as Boyer hit a leadoff single and sophomore SS
Evan Gallagher walked with one out, but Rossetti got a infield fly and a strikeout to end the game after a double steal put the tying run on second.
The nightcap saw Bloomsburg get into ESU's pitching staff for one run in the first, three in the second and four in the third for an 8-0 lead. The Warriors sent six pitchers to the mound, all with freshman eligibility.
The Huskies added their final seven runs in the sixth inning before ESU scored six runs in the bottom of the inning.
Junior
Bryce Muth went 3-for-4 as the Warriors' designated hitter for the second three-hit game of his career and had an RBI single in the third inning. Freshman 1B
Brian Ernst also singled to drive in a run in the frame.
Senior
Kenny Serfass hit a pinch-hit grand slam and Boyer had a two-run shot for his first career homer in the sixth. Serfass has three home runs this season.
Ernst and Gallagher both had two hits in the second game and three Warriors – sophomore CF
Carey Zimmerman, Kelmer and Boyer – had two hits in the first game. Boyer was 5-for-9 in the series with two doubles and a home run and was also successful on all three stolen base attempts.
The Warriors are slated to make their first appearance this season at Mitterling Field on Tuesday as they host Kutztown in the second half of this year's PSAC East series. The Golden Bears took the first two games, 9-3 and 6-4, on their home field on March 24.
