EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University pitcher Christian Saveri has been named to the Daktronics All-Atlantic Region second team, the first of three All-Region baseball teams that will be released over the next two weeks, it was announced Thursday.

Saveri (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Catholic), who was selected as the PSAC East Pitcher of the Year last week, is one of four starting pitchers on the second team in balloting conducted by the sports information directors of the Atlantic Region, which includes the PSAC, WVIAC and CIAA.

He is ESU's second All-Region pitcher in as many years, following Jeremy Gigliotti, who was a first team Daktronics and second team ABCA and NCBWA honoree last season. Saveri will be a candidate for ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association) and NCBWA (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association) honors later this month.

The senior left-hander posted a 4-4 record, two saves and a 2.70 ERA in 63.1 innings during the regular season for the Warriors, who went 15-3 over the final 15 days of the regular season to qualify for the PSAC tournament.

He set the school record with his 65th career appearance in his start against IUP in the PSAC playoffs and holds the single-season record with 22 appearances in 2009, when he was a second team All-PSAC East relief pitcher.

Saveri finished his senior year with a 3.37 ERA, 65 strikeouts and 14 walks in 69.1 innings. He appeared in 13 games, including 10 starts, and threw 42.2 innings against the PSAC East – the most by any pitcher in the conference this season. He went at least 5.2 innings in all six conference starts and had saves against Bloomsburg and Shippensburg.

In his career, Saveri ranks first in school history in appearances (65), second in saves (nine) and sixth in strikeouts (161). His career ERA of 3.94 is the fourth-lowest since 1985, and he is in the top 10 in career appearances in the history of the PSAC.

Over his final two years, he had a 3.32 ERA with 122 strikeouts and 23 walks in 119.1 innings and earned two all-conference selections. His 2009 season (3.24 ERA, 50.0 innings, 57 strikeouts, nine walks) featured 14 appearances in 24 games against the PSAC East.

A three-time PSAC East Pitcher of the Week recipient, Saveri is the second ESU pitcher to earn the PSAC East Pitcher of the Year award, joining Mike Balent, who was honored in 1985.

Saveri (2010), Gigliotti (2009), Joel Bennett (1990-91) and Balent (1985) are the only All-Region pitchers in school history.
