EAST STROUDSBURG – Senior forward Jessica Frantz scored five goals, tied for the second-most in school history, as No. 4 East Stroudsburg University scored six goals in the second half en route to a 9-4 win over Mansfield on Wednesday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

Frantz entered the week as the leading scorer in Division II with eight goals in the Warriors' first three games and turned in just the third game with at least five goals in the history of the ESU field hockey program. Jane Moffet scored six goals in a game vs. Moravian in 1949, and Ann Marie Dellibovi had five goals vs. Wilkes in 1990.

Frantz opened the scoring 5:40 into the game and seniors Caitlin Brownley and Kayla Cilenti also scored first-half goals for the Warriors before the six-goal deluge after halftime. Brownley, one of the nation's top scorers last season with 19 goals, had her first goal of the season and also added an assist in the second half.

Seniors Brittany Kocis and Katie Anderson also scored after halftime and senior Joanna Reckley and sophomores Alyson Becker and Mallory Pope had assists.

Frantz scored 2:01 into the second half, added her third goal of the game six minutes later and then scored twice within a minute with just under 20 minutes to play to complete the 17th game with at least five goals in NCAA Division II history.

Taryn Schawillie scored two goals for Mansfield (1-3) and Kristyn Grunza and Kristy Tutorow added a goal and an assist.

The 13 combined goals are the second-most in a field hockey game in ESU history, surpassed only by a 16-0 victory over Hunter in 1962.

The Warriors and Mounties combined for 21 goals in their two meetings last year, both wins for ESU – 6-5 at Mansfield early in the season, and 9-1 at Whitenight Field in the final home game of the year.

ESU is back in action on Saturday with a non-conference game against No. 10-ranked IUP at 2 p.m. at Whitenight Field.
