AFCA Division II Coaches Poll (PDF)
EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University is ranked No. 25 in this week's AFCA Division II Coaches Poll, its first regular season ranking from the AFCA since the 2006 season, it was announced Monday.
The Warriors won their season opener at Pace, 57-0, pitching their fifth shutout in 37 season openers under head coach
Denny Douds and scoring the third-most points in an opener in school history. Redshirt senior quarterback
Matt Marshall threw for 337 yards and a career-high five touchdowns to earn PSAC East Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Saturday's home opener vs. IUP, slated for a 6 p.m. start at Eiler-Martin Stadium, will come four years and nine days after the Warriors' last game in the AFCA Top 25 when No. 18 ESU fell to Bentley, 9-7, in the 2006 season opener.
ESU owns a 21-10 record when ranked in the Top 25 since the AFCA poll began in 2000. Seven of the next 10 opponents were ranked or received votes in the preseason poll, including their next four – IUP, California, West Chester and Bloomsburg.
The PSAC has three schools ranked this week – No. 4 California, No. 24 Edinboro and No. 25 ESU. The Fighting Scots upset then-No. 7 West Liberty on Saturday to move into the national rankings.
The Warriors were No. 25 in the AFCA preseason poll and were the second team receiving votes last week. They were No. 13 in last week's D2Football.com poll, which is expected to be released again on Tuesday.
