ESU was No. 25 in the preseason poll, fell to second among others receiving votes in the first regular season poll and is now back in the Top 25. ESU is ranked No. 12 this week by D2Football.com.

ESU with AFCA ranking: 21-10
Home: 10-6
Road: 11-4

ESU will play seven schools that were either ranked or received votes in the AFCA preseason poll - IUP, California, Bloomsburg, West Chester, C.W. Post, Shippensburg and Edinboro. Cal is No. 4 this week and Edinboro is No. 24 after upsetting then-No. 7 West Liberty. West Chester was No. 21 but dropped out after falling at Delaware in its season opener. For more on ESU in the Top 25, please see page 9.

DEMANDING SCHEDULE: IUP, California, West Chester and Bloomsburg - the next four schools on the Warriors' schedule - represent the top two teams in each division in the PSAC preseason poll. PSAC West preseason favorite California (11-4), PSAC East favorite West Chester (7-4) and Bloomsburg (8-3) combined for a 26-11 record last season, while IUP was 5-6 for its first losing season since 1982.

UNDER THE LIGHTS: The Warriors are 4-1 in night games since lights were installed at Eiler-Martin Stadium in 2007. ESU has won the last four games after falling to IUP, 38-23, in the first game under the lights on Sept. 15, 2007. ESU was 3-0 in night games in 2008 (Virginia Union, Gannon, Cheyney) and won its only night game last season (Clarion).

THE SERIES: IUP leads the all-time series with ESU, 8-6, since the first meeting in 1960. The Warriors won back-to-back PSAC championships vs. IUP in the State Game in 1964 (27-14) and 1965 (26-10). The last 11 meetings have come with Indiana, Pa. native Denny Douds at the helm of the Warriors, who brought IUP onto the schedule in his inaugural season in 1974 and is 4-7 against his hometown school.

LAST TIME OUT: R-Sr. QB Matt Marshall was 22-for-33 for 337 yards and a career-high 5 TDs, hitting five different receivers, and the defense forced five turnovers and had nine sacks as ESU blanked Pace, 57-0. The shutout was the Warriors' fifth in a season opener under Douds, and the 57 points are the third-most in the first game of the year in 83 years of varsity football. Marshall's 5 TD passes helped ESU overcome a slow start, as a safety was the only scoring of the first quarter before the Warriors scored points on eight of their final 11 offensive possessions and compiled 500 yards of total offense by game's end.

MARSHALL HONORED: Marshall was recognized with his fifth career PSAC East Offensive Player of the Week award for his performance at Pace. He was previously mentioned following the final two games of the regular season in 2008 (at Millersville, at Slippery Rock), and twice in 2009 (Clarion, at Kutztown). Marshall's passing yards (337) and total offense (363) were both the third-most of his career, to go with his career-best 5 TD passes, which came in a span of 18:30 from the end of the first half until early in the fourth quarter.

THE HEAD COACHES:
Denny Douds holds a 5-4 advantage in nine meetings with Lou Tepper. Douds was 5-2 against Tepper's Edinboro teams from 2000-05. The Warriors have lost both meetings since Tepper has been at IUP, 2006 (35-20) and 2007 (38-23).

Douds (Slippery Rock '63) holds the PSAC record for career wins with a 227-146-3 record in his 37th season as head football coach at ESU. He is in his 45th season at ESU overall and is one of five active coaches in Division II, and one of just 18 coaches in all of college football, with at least 200 career victories. He has led the Warriors to nine PSAC titles and four NCAA Playoff appearances. For more information on Coach Douds and the ESU coaching staff, please see page 11 of the game notes.

Tepper (Rutgers '67) is in his fifth season as head coach at IUP and 17th year as a collegiate head coach, owning a career record of 96-70-2. He has a record of 31-13 at the helm of the Crimson Hawks, going 25-7 in his first three years with an NCAA Playoff appearance in 2007 before a 5-6 campaign last season. He led Edinboro to the NCAA Playoffs in 2003 and 2004 and was 25-31-2 in five seasons at Illinois from 1992-96.

NEW DECADE: The Warriors wrapped up their winningest decade in school history in the 2000's, going 77-34 for a .694 winning percentage. They had nine winning records in 10 years, made three NCAA Playoff appearances, won PSAC East titles in 2002 and 2003, and had a school-record 11 wins in 2005.
