EAST STROUDSBURG – Redshirt senior quarterback Ray Wagner threw for a career-high 397 yards and two touchdowns, but No. 5 Bloomsburg controlled the ball for two fourth quarter touchdowns to pull out a 32-20 win over the Warriors in a PSAC East match-up on Saturday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Wagner was 27-for-52 with two touchdowns and two interceptions and two 100-yard receivers in redshirt junior Jordan Hallman (four catches, 128 yards, TD) and freshman Ray Dominguez (seven catches, 110 yards). Sophomore Dusty Reed, ninth in Division II with 108.3 yards per game entering the game, had eight catches for 96 yards and a score.

Eddie Mateo (24 carries, 157 yards), a transfer from Stony Brook, and Franklyn Quiteh (26 carries, 124 yards), a finalist for the Harlon Hill Award as a freshman, combined for 281 of Bloomsburg's 288 rushing yards. Quiteh scored on runs of one and four yards in the fourth quarter, when the sophomores helped the Huskies run for 101 yards on 20 carries and hold the ball for 11:58.

ESU (1-4, 0-2) jumped out to a 10-0 lead on its first two possessions as Wagner was 5-of-5 for 77 yards on the opening drive, capped by a 34-yard TD pass to Hallman, and hit Hallman with a 54-yard pass play for the big gain on a 15-play, 90-yard drive that culminated with a 21-yard field goal by sophomore kicker Taylor Groff midway through the opening period.

Bloomsburg (5-0, 2-0) took advantage of the first of ESU's three turnovers to get on the board late in the first quarter when the Warriors muffed a punt and the Huskies recovered at the 31. Senior quarterback Pat Carey, who was 15-for-21 for 198 yards, hit fullback Ryan Maggs with a one-yard TD pass for the score after Quiteh carried four times for 28 yards to get it to the goal line.

The Warriors were the recipient of Bloomsburg's only turnover less than three minutes later with the same situation – a muffed punt – but a different outcome, as Groff missed a 21-yard field goal when the timing was just off from the kicking unit.

The ESU defense, which held Bloomsburg to 222 yards (113 rushing) in the first half, forced its third punt of the first half after the missed field goal and the offense cashed in six plays and 96 yards later. Wagner was 5-for-5 for 98 yards on the drive, which included a three-yard run and a five-yard penalty for a false start. He hit three different receivers, going to Hallman for 18 yards and Dominguez for 13 and 35 yards before hitting Reed for 13 and then 19 for the touchdown.

Bloomsburg narrowed the margin to 17-13 at halftime with a pair of short field goals from Dan Fisher on its final two possessions of the second quarter. Mateo and Quiteh carried the Huskies 54 yards on nine plays to set up a 26-yarder at the 3:55 mark, and after ESU went three-and-out, Carey went to the air with five straight completions to set up a 22-yard field goal with 15 seconds left after the Warriors held inside the 10-yard line.

The defense came up with another stop on Bloomsburg's first drive of the second half, as the Huskies were set up with first-and-goal from the two but had to settle for the third of four field goals from Fisher after redshirt senior outside linebacker Bryan Billger dropped Quiteh for a loss on second down and Carey's third down pass fell incomplete.

The Warriors got the three-pointer back – once again after a drive stalled inside the five – when Groff connected from 22 after Wagner hit Hallman for 22 yards, Reed for 15 and Williams for 13 on a 10-play, 60-yard march to make the score 20-16.

After an exchange of punts, Bloomsburg narrowed it to 20-19 on a 33-yard field goal by Fisher at the 2:19 mark of the third quarter. D.J. Robinson set the Huskies up at the ESU 47 with a 21-yard punt return and Quiteh carried for 17 yards on the first play from scrimmage, but the Warriors' defense did its job to hold the Huskies to three.

The Warriors picked up 38 yards on a pass from Wagner to Dominguez, which put the freshman over the 100-yard mark for the first time in his career, on their ensuing possession but three passes fell incomplete and ESU was forced to punt with less than a minute left in the third quarter.

Freshman Jordan Bair's 35-yard punt was downed at the four-yard line, but the gain in field position was erased when Mateo had a 30-yard run – the Huskies' longest of the game – on the first play from scrimmage. The big gain was the start of a 14-play, 96-yard drive that ran 6:09 off the clock and included a four-yard gain by Mateo on fourth-and-one from the 19. Quiteh got the ball on the next five plays and finally cashed in on third-and-goal from the one with 9:36 remaining. Bloomsburg took its first lead of the game, 25-20, and the Warriors stopped Mateo on the two-point conversion try.

Wagner drove ESU into Bloomsburg territory after getting the ball back with just over nine minutes left, but his 50th pass of the game was intercepted by Dan Haverstock as he looked for a big play down the middle of the field. Haverstock returned to the Bloomsburg 46, and the Huskies went the final 54 yards on six plays capped by Quiteh's four-yard run with 4:33 remaining.

Any chance for a Warriors comeback was thwarted by Haverstock's second interception after a holding penalty erased a 15-yard pass to Williams on the start of the next possession. A 15-yard pass from Carey to Ryan Dickerson (eight catches, 104 yards) picked up a key first down on third-and-eight to seal the victory.

Bloomsburg finished with a time of possession advantage of 37:02 to 22:58 after the two teams were almost even in the first half. The Huskies had 34 carries for 175 yards in the second half and were 7-for-8 in the red zone for the game, with three TD's, four field goals and a kneel down at the end of the fourth quarter.

Wagner was 18-for-29 for 289 yards in the first half – 10-for-19 for 167 yards in the first quarter – and had career-highs with 27 completions, 52 attempts and 397 yards. He entered the week ranked sixth in Division II in passing and total offense and has 1,642 yards (328.4 per game) through the first five games, the third-most in school history.

ESU continues its march through a rugged schedule with a 1 p.m. kickoff at Kutztown next Saturday. The Golden Bears, ranked No. 12 in the AFCA poll, fell 49-7 at Shippensburg on Saturday to end a 4-0 start. The Warriors' last four opponents plus Kutztown – IUP, California, West Chester, Bloomsburg and Kutztown – entered the week with a 14-5 record this season.

Game Notes
* ESU's Denny Douds coached his 391st career game, two from tying the Division II record of 393 set by Jim Malosky of Minnesota-Duluth from 1958-97. Douds will tie the record on Oct. 15 vs. C.W. Post and set the new standard on Oct. 22 vs. Millersville.
* Douds holds the PSAC record with 230 wins and is 230-158-3 in 38 seasons as head coach.
* Bloomsburg's Danny Hale improves to 199-65-1 in his 24th season as a collegiate coach, and 159-52-1 in his 19th season at Bloomsburg.
* ESU holds a 38-36-2 advantage in the all-time series going back to 1927. The Warriors' last win was a 52-39 victory in the second round of the 2005 NCAA Playoffs, when ESU won the Northeast Region championship. Bloomsburg has won the last six meetings and last seven in the regular season.
* The Warriors took a lead into the fourth quarter against both of their ranked opponents this season. ESU led No. 21 California 19-14 in a 22-19 loss on Sept. 17, and led No. 5 Bloomsburg 20-19 on Saturday.
* ESU is 10-15 against ranked opponents since 2000 and 1-8 in its last nine games vs. the AFCA Top 25. ESU is 1-6 vs. top 10 teams, with five of the games coming against Bloomsburg.

* Wagner's 1,642 yards through five games are third behind Damian Poalucci (1,851) in 1996 and Jimmy Terwilliger (1,793) in 2005. Terwilliger won the Harlon Hill in 2005 and Poalucci was third in 1996.
* He had his third 300-yard game of the season, with 375 vs. Pace and 323 at IUP the first two weeks. Only two ESU QB's - Terwilliger (2003-06) and Poalucci (1996-97) - have four 300-yard games in a season.
* He entered the game as one of six QB's in Division II with at least 250 passing yards in every game.
* He joins Terwilliger (2004) and Poalucci (1997) as the only ESU QB's with 250 passing yards in five straight games. No ESU QB has hit the mark in six straight games within a single season.
* Wagner's 52 pass attempts make him the second ESU QB - joining Poalucci in 1996 - with at least 50 attempts twice in a season and a career. Nine QB's have combined for 11 50-attempt games.
* He is the first ESU QB with four straight games with 40 pass attempts - 26-51 at IUP, 24-44 vs. Cal, 21-43 at West Chester and 27-52 vs. Bloomsburg.
* Wagner was sacked once for a loss of one yard. He has been sacked just twice in 210 pass attempts this season.
* He is on pace for 462 pass attempts and 3,612 yards in his only season as a starter.

* Hallman set a career-high with 128 receiving yards and had his eighth career TD catch.
* Dominguez's seven catches for 110 yards were both career-highs - passing four catches for 70 yards in his career debut vs. California - and came in his second career start.
* Five Warriors have a 100-yard receiving game in their career - Dominguez, Hallman, Reed, R-So. WR Robert Bleiler and Jr. TB Kendrick Williams.
* ESU just missed having three receivers with 100-yard games for the 3rd time in school history.

* Reed tied his career-high with eight catches and had 96 yards receiving, just missing his fourth 100-yard game in the first five games. He had eight catches for 105 yards last week at West Chester. He is one of three receivers in Division II with at least 80 yards in every game this season.
* Reed had his 11th TD catch in his 16th career game. He caught his 10th TD pass last week, beating Anthony Carfagno by one game as the fastest Warrior to 10 TD catches in school history.
* He has 7 catches for 106 yards (vs. Cal), 8 catches for 105 yards (at West Chester) and 8 catches for 96 yards (vs. Bloomsburg) the last three weeks. He is the 5th ESU receiver with three straight games with 7+ catches, joining Evan Prall (2006), Brett Witmer (1997), Dennis Mailhot (1990) and Ernie Siegrist (1984). He is the 8th ESU receivier with two straight games with 8+ catches, joinining MIke Mancuso (1997), Dennis McWhite (1994), Doug Leonzi (1991), Mailhot (1990), Tim Bishop (1984, 1985), Siegrist (1984) and Scott Benoit (1983).
* ESU has never had a receiver with 7+ catches in four straight games or 8+ catches in three straight games.

* Groff's missed field goal from 21 yards was his first miss under 40 yards in his career. The sophomore is now 15-for-16 under 40 yards after going 12-for-12 as a freshman. He was 16-for-21 last season, setting the Warriors' school record, and is 4-for-5 in two games this season after missing the first three games due to injury.
* Fr. P Jordan Bair was 4th among Division II freshmen in punting average (40.2) entering the game. He averaged 34.0 yards on four punts with three inside the 20.
