EAST STROUDSBURG – Calvin Edwards made three free throws with 2.2 seconds left as Clarion came away with a 65-63 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC men's basketball early Sunday evening at Koehler Fieldhouse.

ESU (2-3, 1-1 PSAC) led 63-62 with 34 seconds left, and junior forward Duane Johnson appeared to make the game-saving defensive play when he knocked the ball away from Leonard Patterson on the perimeter with seven seconds left. Edwards picked it up, drew a foul call on a three-pointer and made all three from the line, and senior guard Russell Graham III's half-court shot was just offline at the buzzer.

Johnson (13 points), freshman guard Matt Tobin (12) and Graham (10) were in double figures for ESU. Paul McQueen scored 16 points, 15 in the first half, and Bud Teer had 15 points and 17 rebounds for Clarion (2-3, 1-1 PSAC).

Clarion scored the final four points in a back-and-forth second half, the Warriors' second straight game that went down to the wire after pulling out a 90-89 win over Gannon in their PSAC opener on Saturday.

Graham scored on a driving layup and junior forward Terrance King had an offensive rebound and putback to give the Warriors a 63-61 lead with 1:39 remaining. King came up with a steal at the other end, but Graham's jumper was off the mark at the end of the shot clock.

A foul put McQueen at the line for two with 36 seconds left, and he made the second to make it a one-point game. Graham was fouled on the inbounds pass but missed the front end of a one-and-one, and Clarion moved the ball over halfcourt and called timeout with 26 seconds remaining to set up the finish.

The Warriors trailed 35-32 at halftime and didn't take their first lead of the game until junior guard Gerald Bridges, Jr. made consecutive three-pointers to put ESU in front, 50-46, on either side of the 12-minute media timeout. Another three by Tobin gave ESU a five-point lead (53-48) with 10:27 remaining, but Teer had two buckets, the second off an offensive rebound, and a steal and layup by Calvin Edwards put Clarion ahead 54-53.

Neither team led by more than three for the final 10 minutes after playing the last 12 minutes in a similar situation on Saturday.

Bridges scored nine points on three three-pointers after tying his career-high with 10 points in ESU's win over Gannon. Tobin knocked down two three's and was 4-for-4 at the foul line, but ESU shot just 10-for-19 at the stripe compared to 14-for-20 for Clarion.

The Warriors were 9-for-28 from long distance and shot 40 percent overall. Clarion shot 49 percent for the game and 3-for-12 from behind the arc.

King finished with nine points, three rebounds, three blocks and three steals, Graham grabbed six rebounds and had four assists, Tobin added four assists, senior forward Eric Bryan had five points and five rebounds and freshman forward Lamont Tillery had five rebounds. Clarion led the rebounding margin 37-28 thanks to Teer's 17 boards.

ESU is 25-5 against the PSAC West in mandated crossover games since 2006-07 and will play all eight schools this season, with the results counting in the PSAC standings for the first time. The Warriors are back in conference action in two weekends, traveling to Slippery Rock and Mercyhurst on December 3-4.

They will host two non-conference games in the next eight days, welcoming St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Molloy the following Monday at 7 p.m. ESU extended its non-conference home winning streak to 29 games with a 107-53 win over PSU-Schuylkill last Tuesday.
