Box Score

PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore OF Eric Boyer went 2-for-4 with a home run and a single that scored junior SS Evan Gallagher with the game-winning run in the top of the 10th inning as No. 11 East Stroudsburg University posted an 11-10 win over Philadelphia University in non-conference baseball on Tuesday.

Freshman Keith Moyer earned the win for the Warriors on the mound, throwing the final 2.2 innings without allowing a hit or a run and striking out six.

ESU improved to 17-4 after a 10-day layoff, and in the process won its first game as a nationally-ranked program in school history. The Warriors are ranked 11th in the NCBWA Division II polls and 1st in the Atlantic Region for the second straight week but did not play last week due to inclement weather.

Neither team's pitching was sharp, as ESU scored its 11 runs on nine hits and was the beneficiary of 12 walks from the Rams' pitching staff. ESU pitchers issued 11 walks and hit five batters as Philadelphia U (2-13) scored 10 runs on six hits. Both clubs also committed three errors and five of the game's 21 runs were unearned.

ESU took a 9-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning, scoring four runs in the first inning and five in the sixth, but the Rams took advantage of their extra base runners to score one run in the sixth, two in the seventh and five in the eighth to tie the game at 10-10.

Boyer's solo homer with two outs in the eighth was the Warriors' only scoring until he drove in the go-ahead run in the 10th. Gallagher led off with a double, moved to third on a long flyout to center by redshirt junior 3B Jake Griesemer, and scored on Boyer's single to center.

Moyer pitched around a one-out walk with two strikeouts to close the game in the bottom of the 10th. The freshman right-hander entered the game in the eighth, pitching out of trouble after the Rams scored four of their five runs, then struck out the side in the ninth after a leadoff walk. He improves to 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 16.2 innings this season.

Boyer was 2-for-4 with two walks and Gallagher went 2-for-6 with two runs for the only multi-hit games for the Warriors. Freshman C Eric Forth hit his first career home run, a three-run blast that gave ESU a 7-2 lead in the sixth inning.

The Warriors return to PSAC East play on Friday against Mansfield when they host the Mounties in the first half of this weekend's series at 1 p.m. at Mitterling Field.
