EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University baseball program will face a pair of must-win games for its PSAC Tournament prospects on Monday, May 9 at Mansfield after No. 9 Millersville finished a four-game series win over the Warriors with 2-0 and 5-4 victories on Saturday afternoon at Mitterling Field.

The ESU offense, held in check by Millersville's pitching for the first 26 innings of the series, scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning of the nightcap but couldn't plate the tying run against the top-ranked team in the Atlantic Region. Millersville (37-8, 19-5) won a pair of pitchers' duels, 1-0 and 2-0, on Friday and ran its winning streak to nine games on Saturday.

Mike McMonagle threw a six-hit complete game in the opener and got a 2-0 lead on a two RBI double from catcher Ryan Chesler in the fourth inning. The Warriors grounded into one double play and lined into two others, including a second-and-third, one-out situation in the bottom of the third before the Marauders took the lead in the fourth.

Junior Ryan Beck, the Warriors' closer earlier in the season, had his second straight quality start in three appearances, going 5.1 innings and allowing two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Sophomore Mike Glassic (1.2 IP) got a double play after he relieved Beck in the sixth and got two strikeouts in a hitless seventh.

In the second game, Millersville scored in four of its first six at bats to take a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth before the Warriors sent nine batters to the plate and scored their first runs of the series to pull within 5-4.

Sophomore OF Evan Cain singled, junior SS Evan Gallagher walked and junior 2B Ryan Guarino had an RBI single to plate Cain to open the inning and chase starter Tim Mayza, who was lifted for Jason Long. After a fielders' choice, sophomore 1B Brian Ernst drew a walk and freshman OF Chris Knott followed with a two RBI single. The Marauders got the second out of the inning before redshirt junior 3B Jake Griesemer drove in Ernst with a single to make it 5-4, but Long stranded the tying run on third to get out of the frame.

ESU had a final chance to tie the game in the seventh off closer Zach Eckley when Gallagher had a one-out single and moved to second on a wild pitch, but Eckley got a strikeout and flyout to end the game.

The Warriors sent five pitchers to the mound beginning with starter Colin Kelly (3.1 IP, 3 runs), who took his first loss of the season to fall to 4-1. Glassic threw 1.2 innings and got a double play on the first batter he faced in both games of the doubleheader, freshman Keith Moyer gave up one run in the sixth and freshman Keenan Stare pitched a scoreless seventh.

Redshirt senior Jeremy Gigliotti, who was recognized with senior catcher Bryce Muth before the final home games of the season, threw one pitch to start the seventh inning before being lifted for Stare. Gigliotti threw a complete game four-hitter in the 1-0 loss in the series opener on Friday and leads Division II with a 0.51 ERA (3 ER in 53.0 innings) this season.

After the final scheduled day of the regular season, two of the PSAC East's four playoff spots are still up for grabs. Millersville is the top seed at 19-5 and Shippensburg is locked into the postseason at 12-12, but the other five schools all have an opportunity to clinch a playoff berth.

ESU (9-13) is scheduled to travel to Mansfield (9-11) to finish the season series on Monday, May 9 and would clinch a playoff spot with two wins due to the tiebreaker scenarios of head-to-head competition among teams involved in a tie with 11 wins. West Chester (9-13) heads to Mansfield on Sunday, and Kutztown and Bloomsburg are both in the clubhouse with 11-13 records.

Warriors Notes

* The PSAC Tournament begins Wednesday, May 11 at Point Stadium in Johnstown, PA.
* Gigliotti's one-pitch relief appearance was the 42nd of his career, moving into a tie for 9th at ESU.
