EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior midfielder Nick Fischer scored two goals and freshman forward Wesley Fossile found the net 11 minutes into his collegiate career as the new-look East Stroudsburg University men's soccer team opened the 2011 season with a 3-1 win over Concord on Friday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Fossile scored the game's first goal and Fischer put the Warriors ahead for good with 1:04 left before halftime as ESU won in its first game under head coach Rob Berkowitz, who will coach both the men's and women's soccer teams this season.

Fischer, a first team NJCAA All-American at the County College of Morris (N.J.) last year, added an insurance goal 14 minutes into the second half. Sophomore midfielder Matthew Geidner assisted on Fossile's goal in the early going and sophomore midfielder Andrew Cerda helped on Fischer's first goal.

ESU held a 20-11 advantage in shots thanks to a 10-1 margin in the first half. Concord scored on its only shot in the first half, a header by Lucas Lemine that tied the game in the 16th minute, but the Warriors continued to apply the pressure and broke through with the go-ahead goal just before intermission.

Sophomore Andrew Chongaway made his first career start and appearance in goal for the Warriors and made four second-half saves, including back-to-back stops from close range with less than 15 minutes left. Matt Hamilton had three saves for Concord.

The Warriors played their first game without head coach Jerry Sheska on the sideline since 1981. Sheska announced his retirement in May after leading his alma mater to a PSAC-record 424 wins, 15 PSAC championships and 16 NCAA Division II Tournament appearances in 29 seasons guiding the program.

The Warriors are back at Eiler-Martin Stadium on Sunday afternoon when they host Caldwell at 1 p.m.
