THE MATCH-UP: The PSAC's top passing and rushing offenses take the field as East Stroudsburg University hosts No. 5 Bloomsburg for the 76th meeting between the two schools at Eiler-Martin Stadium. The Warriors are looking for their first win in the series since their 52-39 victory in the second round of the 2005 NCAA Playoffs. The Huskies are ranked in the top 6 in Division II for the fourth time in the last six meetings.

AIR IT OUT, GRIND IT OUT: ESU leads the PSAC and ranks 4th in Division II with 331.5 passing yards per game, while Bloomsburg leads the PSAC and is 7th in Division II with 261.8 rushing yards per game. ESU R-Sr. QB Ray Wagner is 6th in Division II in both passing (311.3) and total offense (332.5 per game) and So. WR Dusty Reed is 9th in the nation with 108.3 receiving yards per game. Bloomsburg has two top tailbacks in Franklyn Quiteh, a 2,000-yard rusher as a freshman, and Eddie Mateo, who has run for 451 yards and 8 TD's this season. The Huskies have been better on the defensive side of the ball the first four games, ranking 7th in Division II in scoring (13.3), passing (132.0) and pass efficiency (86.11) defense.

RECORD APPROACHING: Denny Douds (Slippery Rock '63), who holds the PSAC record for career wins with a 230-157-3 record in his 38th season as head football coach at ESU, is approaching the Division II record for most games coached. Douds will coach his 394th game on Oct. 22 vs. Millersville and become the Division's all-time leader. His current number, 390, is 87 more than the second-most in PSAC history. Including 68 games as an assistant coach under Charlie Reese (1966-73), he has coached in 458 of the 758 games - 60.4 percent - in program history. Douds is second among active Division II coaches and seventh among all active coaches in career victories. He has led the Warriors to nine PSAC titles and four NCAA Playoff appearances. For more on Coach Douds, please see page 12 of the game notes.

Danny Hale (West Chester '68) has a 198-65-1 record in his 24th season as a college head coach and a 158-52-1 record in his 19th season at Bloomsburg. He previously guided West Chester for five seasons. He has led the Huskies to a share of 11 PSAC East championships, was the national runner-up in 2000 and made the national semifinals in 2006. Bloomsburg represented the PSAC East in last year's PSAC title game.

PLAYING THE BEST: ESU has been tested by three of the PSAC's top teams the last three weeks and will tackle a pair of teams ranked in the top half of the AFCA Top 25, No. 5 Bloomsburg and No. 12 Kutztown, the next two weeks. If Kutztown maintains a Top 20 ranking next week, it will be the first time since the AFCA poll began in 2000 that ESU will play Top 20 teams in back-to-back weeks.

IUP (1-2), California (3-1), West Chester (2-2), Bloomsburg (4-0) and Kutztown (4-0) have combined for a 14-5 record this season. The five schools were 40-19 last year - with Cal, Bloom and KU winning 10 games each - and 26-9 in PSAC divisional games.

ESU vs. THE TOP 25: The Warriors are 10-14 against AFCA Top 25 teams since 2000 and 1-7 in their last eight games. ESU's most recent win was a 14-11 victory vs. No. 25 Virginia Union in the 2008 season opener. ESU is 1-5 against teams ranked in the top 10, and 0-5 since the 52-39 win at No. 2 Bloomsburg in the 2005 NCAA Playoffs.

NCAA RANKINGS: ESU's offense, ranked 4th in Division II in passing (331.5 ypg), has been headlined by impressive performances by R-Sr. QB Ray Wagner, So. WR Dusty Reed and a veteran offensive line that has allowed just one sack of Wagner in 158 attempts. Wagner is 6th in passing and total offense and Reed is 9th in receiving yards.

CONSISTENTLY GREAT: Wagner, Reed and Jr. TB Kendrick Williams are among a handful of Division II players to consistently hit specific numerical milestones this season:

Wagner - 1 of 6 QB's to throw for 250 yards in every game
Reed - 1 of 3 WR's with 80 receiving yards in every game
Reed - 1 of 6 WR's with three 100-yard games
Williams - 1 of 3 players with 150 all-purpose yards in every game

NEXT IN LINE: Wagner, who set school records for passing yards (375) and TDs (6) in a half and pass efficiency (321.5) in his first career start vs. Pace in the season opener, has been impressive in the first four games of his only season as the Warriors' starter.

His 1,245 passing yards (311.3 per game, 6th in DII) are the fifth-most by an ESU QB at the four-game mark of a season behind Jimmy Terwilliger (2004, 2005), Damian Poalucci (1996) and James Franklin (1994). He can become the third QB to hit the 1,500-yard mark through five games - Franklin had 1,499 during the 1994 season. Terwilliger, Poalucci and Franklin were all Harlon Hill candidates with Terwilliger winning the award in 2005.

200/HALF: Wagner threw for 200 yards in a half in each of the first 3 games this season - 375 vs. Pace (1st), 206 at IUP (1st) and 201 vs. Cal (2nd). He had 173 yards in the 2nd half at West Chester last Saturday.

KEEPING A CLEAN SHIRT: ESU's veteran offensive line, which has combined for 125 career starts, has allowed just 3 sacks in 166 pass attempts this season - by far the lowest rate per attempt in the PSAC.

Wagner was sacked for the first time in 158 attempts on ESU's final offensive play at West Chester and has been sacked just 6 times in 221 career attempts. The previous two sacks this season came in the 4th quarter vs. Pace with Wagner out of the game.

THE O-LINE SHUFFLE: R-Sr. LT Zach Sarginger (26 career starts) - a 2009 Academic All-District selection - has started at least 2 games at four offensive line spots in his career, and R-Sr. C Dan Caffrey - 2nd team All-PSAC East in 2010 - has started all 38 games since the start of the 2008 season. R-Jr. RT Wrenton Wright II (26 starts) and R-Jr. RG Seve Rivers (24 starts) are both in their third year as starters.

R-So. LG Greg Blue has started 11 games but missed the last two due to injury. Fr. Pete Wolmart started at left tackle vs. California and West Chester, with Sarginger moving to left guard, but left last week's game due to injury. Blue is expected back in the lineup this week.

REED FIRST TO 50 CATCHES, 10 TDs: So. WR Dusty Reed tied Anthony Carfagno as the fastest Warrior to 50 catches and beat Carfagno by one game as the fastest to 10 receiving TD's, accomplishing both in his 15th career game last week at West Chester.

An All-State tailback at Delone Catholic, Reed moved to receiver as a true freshman and was one catch short of Carfagno's freshman record of 32 receptions. He had 377 yards and 6 TD's last season and has 24 catches for 433 yards and 4 TD's through the first 4 games:

• Pace - 5 catches, 136 yards, 2 TD's; 1 rush, 14 yards
• IUP - 4 catches, 86 yards
• Cal - 7 catches, 106 yards, TD; 1 rush for 6 yards
• WCU - 8 catches, 105 yards, TD; 4 rushes for 22 yards

100 YARD RECEIVING GAMES: Reed can join All-American Evan Prall as the only Warriors with four 100-yard games in the first five outings. Prall had 5 in the first 6 games in 2006 and 6 in the first 7 games in his record-setting 2005 season (88 rec, 1766 yds, 23 TD)

FAST START FOR BLEILER: R-So. WR Robert Bleiler is 4th in the PSAC with 90.7 yards per game through his first three games.

Bleiler returned last week after missing the Cal game due to injury and had 3 catches for 55 yards, including a 34-yard TD. He had 3 catches for 172 yards and 2 TD's, from 44 and 97 yards, vs. Pace in the opener and followed up with 7 catches for 45 yards at IUP.

HITTING 100 TOGETHER: Bleiler and Reed were the second set of ESU teammates to have their first career 100-yard receiving games in the same game (vs. Pace) and the first since Ernie Siegrist (192) and Scott Benoit (161) at Millersville in 1982.

ALL-AROUND GUY: Jr. TB Kendrick Williams is 3rd in the PSAC and 16th in Division II with 172.5 all-purpose yards per game. He has 2,201 career all-purpose yards - 690 this season - in 22 career games, and has at least 100 all-purpose yards in 10 of his 21 starts.

Against Cal, Williams was the first Warrior with 20 rushes and 5 catches since Zach Krise at Gannon in 2009 and just the fifth in 390 games under Coach Douds.

He has 14 career rushing TD's and is three away from forging a five-way tie for 7th in school history with 17.

GROFF RETURNS: So. K Taylor Groff, a member of the preseason Watch List for the Fred Mitchell Award, was 2-for-2 on field goals including a 48-yarder that tied his career-long in his season debut at West Chester.

Groff missed the first 3 games due to injury after going 16-for-21, setting the school record for made field goals, and hitting 12-of-12 inside 40 yards as a freshman. He was one of two kickers in Division II to make a field goal in every game in 2010.

R-So. John Schubert was 4-for-6 on field goals (4-for-5 inside 40) and 10-for-10 on extra points in the first 3 games. Schubert's father, Eric, kicked in the NFL for the NY Giants, New England Patriots and St. Louis Cardinals after a standout career at Pittsburgh.

Groff and Schubert have combined to make 17 of 18 field goals inside 40 yards since the start of last season.

SENIOR QB's STARTING SEASON OPENER
Ray Wagner and Matt Marshall were the first two seniors to start back-to-back season openers since 1980-81. Barry Kennedy was in his 3rd year as a starter in 1980, and Brian Marshall (Matt's father) started 8 games, including the season opener, in 1981.

ESU QB's TOP PSAC IN TOTAL OFFENSE
Wagner leads the PSAC and is 6th in Division II in total offense, a category that ESU QB's have dominated over the past decade. The Warriors' QB has finished in the top 3 in the PSAC in total offense for 9 straight seasons and led the conference each season from 2002 through 2006.

RELIEF PITCHER
R-So. QB Nate Daniels was 5-for-7 for 81 yards and a TD in the 4th quarter vs. Pace. A 2nd team All-State (AAAA) selection from Muhlenberg HS, Daniels was the only QB in Berks County history to have two 2,000-yard seasons and had 4,724 career passing yards and 43 TD. At ESU, he is a member of the school's ROTC program.
