EAST STROUDSBURG – In the final game of a Homecoming Saturday tripleheader at Eiler-Martin Stadium, neither East Stroudsburg University or visiting Slippery Rock were able to dent the scoreboard in a 0-0 tie in a PSAC men's soccer match-up.
ESU outshot Slippery Rock, down to 10 men after a red card in the 76th minute, by a 7-1 margin over the 20-minute overtime. ESU held a 16-13 advantage in shots, while Slippery Rock had a 14-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman goalkeeper
Callum Hampson had three saves for his second shutout in seven starts this season for the Warriors (3-7-1, 0-3-1), who tied for the first time this season.
It was the fifth tie for Slippery Rock (5-2-5, 1-2-2), which had three saves from goalkeeper Clayton Master.
There were nine yellow cards, five on Slippery Rock, and the straight red ejection along with 52 total fouls in the 110-minute affair.
Earlier in the night, ESU's women's team improved to 5-2-4 (4-1-3 PSAC) with a 1-1 tie against Slippery Rock. The Warriors' football team upset West Chester, 35-28, on a 33-yard TD pass from Matt Soltes to Tim Wilson with five seconds left in the day's opener, which began at 1:05 p.m. The final whistle for the men's soccer game came at 11:10 p.m. after a pair of double-overtime soccer games.
ESU heads to Shippensburg for a conference game on Tuesday, then welcomes California to Eiler-Martin Stadium for a 12 p.m. start next Saturday.
